Megadeth Tornado of Souls solo cover + Seymour Duncan Nazgul

Post by Benellerguitars »

IT IS DONE. One of the best solos in metal history, and among the hardest things I've ever done on guitar!!! Totally brutal. Marty Friedman has some of the absolute coolest phrasing, bends, and vibrato of any guitarist ever. Full lesson video coming soon, too. There are NO accurate tabs or video lessons for this anywhere online! I worked on this pretty obsessively to make sure i was nailing it, and i want to share cause i'm such a sweet guy!
Playing my Ibanez RG7421 that i swirled, along with the incredible Seymour Duncan Nazgul in the bridge. Pickup flipping rules so hard. Amazing for rhythm or leads! Using my Kemper Profiler on a Cornford Carrera Amp Factory profile. Enjoy!

Come on, the hardest thing you've done on guitar. ? I used to play this leaf back in my high school band.. That statement prompted the namesake Tornado of Souls on hcaf to call me out and prove i could Play it.. And i proceeded to learn that solo again some 15 years after i had last played it and proved him wrong.. I haven't watched yet and i know its better than me, but i can pull it off ok..

But you are right, there is no accurate tab on this. Especially the ending run. I definitely bullshit my way thru that

Well it is was a good choice to do it, cause that's gonna make you an internet hero! Lol. The first guy to do it! Hell, Friedman never played it live the same as the recording either.. I have the old tab book from when this album came out and the way they tabbed that ending, first off, it was wrong lol, second off, it was the most insane run and finger pattern known to man.. lol.. i still have the tab book and i should post it, cause it's fucking ridiculous..

hahaha well thanks man!!! Maybe i'll finally dethrone Thinkpad20's once legendary video! Yeah that tab book is a joke. Completely wrong all over that solo.

This. Much like Bob Savage, you have the anti-guitar-face, zero-shits-given expression down to a T.

Of course, you make up for it by making goofball faces before and after you play.

Playing it is one thing, but getting the nuance is something else. I'd like to hear it without the solo on the backing track, but that was really awesome. A definite favorite of mine.

So I'm a n00b when it comes to posting on YouTube, but is there a reason "the owner hasn't made this available on mobile" ? Do you sacrifice quality if you make it mobile? I legitimately don't know..
Cause i pretty much never surf the net on my laptop anymore.. Always from my phone...

It has something to do with BMI licensing. I have a few videos by megadeth and dream theater that won't play on mobile, only desktop. It never have me the option to choose.
Haha and thank you all so much for watching!!! I was really proud to finally learn this solo and get it down, so hearing good things about it makes it worth all the hard work. Cheers!

I love how relaxed and casual you look playing this beast of a solo. Mic-drop, FTW. Hope it actually landed on a pillow. Nothing makes a sound dude's heart pitter patter like a mic getting smacked to the floor.

You nailed that shit pal.

I've always wondered how the fuck Marty was able to execute such smooth and fluid leads with that weird ass picking technique he uses.

I don't know. I keep my wrist at a similar angle and my leads definitely ain't nearly as smooth or fluid as his. (I don't know how he does it only holding the pick with two fingers, though. I hold it 3-finger, Hetfield-style, and I'm pretty sure that's the only real reason I keep my wrist at the angle I do.)

That solo truly is one of the best in metal history IMO. I personally like Megadeth riffs, solos, and arrangements in general. Mave's voice well... yeah. That's not the point though. There is an active working knowledge of tonal harmony in a ton of Megadeth shit. It's nice to hear it in metal.

Also, great fucking job.

Great job. That's definitely one of my favorite solos. I've been working on this solo off and on for a while. This is inspiring me to get back to work on it
