What would you do? (super expensive botched guitar set up)
So I took my Silverburst Custom to get set up and get the bridge pick up swapped out with a BKP painkiller. I gave them a set of strings to put on it to set it up with, Ernie Ball Skinny Top Heavy Bottoms (10-13-17-30-42-52). However, I had forgotten BKP always give you free set of strings in the box with the pick up, (10-13-17-26-36-46) and they set the guitar up with those strings. I asked the guy who set it up after I figured out what they had done, and he just kinda blew me off like, ohhhhh, it's no big deal, when those strings wear out just put the set you like on and it should be fine, they are both 10s. So, i'm like OK. But I'm thinking to myself, this blows, this isn't what I just paid $80 for.
I can't fucking stand the feel of the bottom strings, they feel like dental floss and sound like weak thin shit IMO. I'm kinda scared to replace the strings though because the set up is immaculate, and I don't want to fuck up the nut which I've head can happen with the heavy strings I use.
What would you do? Should I just replace the bottom strings and see how it goes? Should I just leave the strings on until they need replaced like he suggested even though they are skeezing me out? Should I take it back and have them adjust my nut and truss rod for the new strings?
This is bumming me out way more than it probably should.

I'd raise a stink. The different gauges will require a different truss rod adjustment, nut slots and possibly bridge height. He needs to give you what you paid for.
Re: What would you do? (super expensive botched guitar set u
If it sounds like weak thin shit, they must have fucked up something else besides just putting on the wrong gauges....

First thing that came to my mind. It's not like you took it in to get the strings changed. You took it in to get it set up with a PU swap and a certain string gauge and set. Will a truss/nut/bridge height be necessary with your custom set? Maybe not, but without the guitar being set up with them, do you know for sure?

I just hate the sound of thin strings, It sounds like it should for those strings, I'm just being a

It's something that usually needs adjustment for a string gauge change, so I think the tech is of full of shit. I would put a new set on and check for buzzing and playability myself, and go to a different tech for the adjustment if you're not comfortable doing that yourself. You may just have to tighten the rod a hair to compensate. I would do it myself, but that's me.
I read your post again, and on the nut, you're saying you haven't put on 10-52s before on this new guitar? If that's the case I would take it to a tech, but not that one. Unless you think they won't charge you any more to fix it, but I wouldn't trust anyone who says what they did is fine.

I personally don't see an issue going from 10-46 to 10-52, I've done it before with very minimum adjustments. But that's besides the point.
The point is you paid for a service to be done a certain way and it wasn't. They have to fix it.

Re: What would you do? (super expensive botched guitar set u
did they give you those strings back . Did they write it down ? I would bring it up , like nice setup but not what I asked for and not what you agreed to so kindly fix it asap .

I'd bring it in and insist they fix it. If they won't, take your business elsewhere.
