For all intents and purposes, the LS1 looks more like a 302 than it looks like a 350. It is distributor-less, got rid of the stupid Siamese block/head/exhaust design, and it has heads on it that resemble AFR185s.

And people will definitely know it looks like an LS1 because of the intake design. It looks like nothing Ford has made on a pushrod motor, ever.

Not so much with a Spyder style manifold.

No, search 302 Spyder intake. It's a carb intake converted to fuel injection.

I'd post a pic for you, but my phone is lame.

How do you like the 3.0? Decent mileage?

Yeah..I usually get around 250-300 miles from about 12-14 gallons. Works for me. Although the 4.0's get almost the same mileage and have a bunch more HP... Keep in mind, mine is a 5 speed, so I probably do a little better on MPG than an automatic. No big issues with it ever (knock on wood). A co worker of mine had the dreaded cam syncro thing fail though. He had to drop a new engine in his... Other than that, these engines are pretty bulletproof from what I read. I just feel bad, I used to do all kinds of shit to my truck, maintenance and modding wise, and I've pretty much almost totally stopped paying attention to it. It's at the point where I just use from A to B, do the minimum stuff and it's still humping along.

My 4.0 has gotten a max of 23.8mpg and an average of about 20mpg, i thought the 3.0 would be a bit better. Mines a manual too.

My 4.0 has a bit of lifter tap but thats a pretty well known issue with these. Plus i hadnt started it in 2 weeks and just walked out, barely bumped the starter and it fired right up. At 220k im happy with that.

I get about 22 average with my 6cyl 3.0, manual transmission as well... I think it's a great mileage for a truck.

Hmm, im suprised it doesnt get more. Mine is the biggest and heaviest of the Rangers i.e 4x4 extra cab.

Still 22 is fine for a truck, our work vans get like 9mpg :freak:

I put $30 in my tank two Thursday ago.

Not sure what that equals in mileage. But I'm assuming it's damn good

Still have a quarter tank.

I think for 17-18mpg you can get into a diesel f250.

The rangers with I beams used to make solid, cheap pre runners.

You have to replace timing chains?

I know next to nothing about cars, but I thought that was an advantage over timing belts, not having to replace them?

You guys are making me GAS for a Ranger for when my Pathfinder with 289k on it finally dies. I'm on CL looking for them.

Give me 3 of them.

1-stock

2-Mad Max style :D

3-Road Warrior style :sarge:

You can find em pretty easy in Oz, and they dont rust like old cars do here, but it costs about $3k to have one sent over here & takes MONTHS & alot of paper work. A guy in a magazine I was reading has a few of them. In some states, you have to convert them over to left hand drive, to be street legal.

I'm a G.M. guy, but the Austrailian Falcon is one of a hand full of Fords that I like.

I buy my Nephew Hot Wheels cars. Got him an Austrailian Ford Falcon awhile back :thu:

Oh yeah on the SOHC there are 3 and you have to pull the engine to get the back one. And ford used plastic timing chain guides on the earlier ones.

If you can get the 4.0 OHV, a vastly better engine in every truck sort of way.
