That tone.

I need to pick up a DRRI at some point.

Surprised by the lack of responses to this thread. Dude is spec-fucking-tacular. Admittedly his style is not for everyone but once it "clicks," you're hooked.

Oh yeah - before my blues band wrapped up in Oct I was seriously considering switching to the DRRI.

What I like about Sean is that he had a throwback style that sounded modern too. I can't explain why his stuff strikes me this way but but to your point I am hooked :)

Yep. Wears his influences on his sleeve yet has his own complete style. Incredibly impressive. Check out the little solo at around 2:00 here:

Is he using a DR in this clip? I can't tell what that amp is behind the road case.

I saw him play several times with a variety of amps and he pretty much sounded the same thru all of them. Saw him use a couple of old Gibsons a few times, blackface fenders, tweeds, a Goodsell, you name it. IIRC, he would have one on the bass player side, as a side fill, much like he does in the clip. But yeah, it didn't really matter what he played, it still came out sounding the same.

And that old Les Paul he played...it only weighed about 7 lbs. It was unbelievably light.

I honestly have no idea what he's using there. I was just reading from a guy that used to play with him that said Sean favored that old Gibson G200 amp he had, as well as a Deluxe Reverb that had 6L6's in it. :idk:

That is so awesome you got to seem him live. I will forever be sad and jelly.

Yeah, he always playing around town, so it wasn't hard to find him. I played with him a couple of times in a an open jam setting. I was mainly just laying back, trying to stay out of the way.

Ever since talking about gold tops and p90's in Billy's Tele thread I have ventured back down the rabbit hole... I came across this recently uploaded live show with decent sound quality. Worth checking out:

His dynamics just floor me. He moves effortlessly between pick and fingers.

Didn't see this thread the first two times, but glad I caught it this time. Some great clips in here!

Cool that this was your thread, Shea - what's funny is I've always thought that you sound like what would happen if Billy Gibbons and Sean Costello had a baby, lol.

Last night I found a couple old videos of him with Tedeschi in some bar in a little redneck town in Ga called Winder. I always hated Winder

He must have been 19 or 20 yrs old at the time. Just a baby!

The AV quality is lacking but it didn't stop me from getting the feels :fap:

Look into his last two albums, "Sean Costello"" and "We Can Get Together." Fucking fantastic records. We Can Get Together was initially my favorite but these days I gravitate towards the self titled. His version of I'm a Ram is so fucking good. Obviously all of his stuff is good but those two albums are his peak IMO.

Here is another one of my favorites with a tuba playing the bass line:

So cool that he could bust an R&B version of a UB40 cover on you and you don't even know what just happened
