Hell of a score. I have always been curious about his amps. I'd love to play one. That Pittman sounds like it can do metal.

This was Dr Z's first attempt at a Trainwreck circuit. It's an entirely different amp than the later Prescription Extra Strength that Brad Paisley helped develop.
From Dr Z himself:It was my philosophical take on the Trainwreck amp design.
Not a copy of a TW, but an attempt to reproduce the simple driving tones of the TW's.
I even sent one to Ken Fischer ,got his blessing and little TW tweak.
Yeah depends on the model. He’s got some other TW inspired models as well, some that are definitely Vox inspired, a few of various Fender lineage, Marshall, etc. I'm far from an expert but a lot of his amps seem to have started out inspired by various historic designs or sounds but are definitely their own thing.

Funny how versatile that Origin 76 can be. I have it set as a clean boost with almost no added compression. Really hits the front of an amp hard without losing the dynamics.
rock flag and eagle wrote:Both guitars sound great through it. I played a Maz 18 many years ago and didn't really appreciate how good they sounded. I think at the time I was more focused on it's simplicity and high price for a low wattage amp, especially since around that time I had bought a used Mesa Road King for the same price the Maz was going for.
Now I want to get a Maz 18 combo and run pedals through it.

Best comp I've ever owned.

Somebody asked about lineage. The Doc makes something for everybody.
I'm thinking all of mine are either Vox and/or Ken Fischer adjacent.
Mazerati GT
Mazerati 30th
Carmen Ghia.
I REALLY want the Blackface flavored discontinued EZG50.
Now, I'm having trouble keeping them all straight. The Nova looks cool, but I don't need channel switching.
newholland wrote:definitely got a cool marshall-y vibe to it-- but gain's a little different. nice harmonics goin on!
how's it respond to picking dynamics? that's kinda always been the selling point of trainwrecks far as i know-- i'd be curious to see how it does backing off and going light! what speaker's in it (you probably said in the OP... but i ain't paying attention :lol)

Amazingly touch sensitive!
About a 1:11 in on the LP clip I kinda back off the attack and volume. Keep in mind the entire LP clip I'm running the Sunface with the guitar volume down around 7

For sure. I'm not sure why I've never owned a Z amp. I've loved every one I've played. What model do you have?

I have a Mazerati V2. It's badass, sounds great clean, does get a little bit of grit at higher volumes, takes pedals real well. I also love amps with minimal knobs.

Jk don’t think it would work with my band without a high gain pedal and I’m trying to stick to a self imposed gear moratorium

Know that’s not your genre/forte but I’m hearing it.
Nice work man.

Is the Maz line related to the Mazeratis? His naming is so confusing to me lol.
But yeah I agree, his amps excel for those things.
