Hell of a score. I have always been curious about his amps. I'd love to play one. That Pittman sounds like it can do metal.

This was Dr Z's first attempt at a Trainwreck circuit. It's an entirely different amp than the later Prescription Extra Strength that Brad Paisley helped develop.

From Dr Z himself:

It was my philosophical take on the Trainwreck amp design.
Not a copy of a TW, but an attempt to reproduce the simple driving tones of the TW's.
I even sent one to Ken Fischer ,got his blessing and little TW tweak.

Yeah depends on the model. He’s got some other TW inspired models as well, some that are definitely Vox inspired, a few of various Fender lineage, Marshall, etc. I'm far from an expert but a lot of his amps seem to have started out inspired by various historic designs or sounds but are definitely their own thing.

For sure. I'm not sure why I've never owned a Z amp. I've loved every one I've played. What model do you have?

Both guitars sound great through it. I played a Maz 18 many years ago and didn't really appreciate how good they sounded. I think at the time I was more focused on it's simplicity and high price for a low wattage amp, especially since around that time I had bought a used Mesa Road King for the same price the Maz was going for.
Now I want to get a Maz 18 combo and run pedals through it.

Funny how versatile that Origin 76 can be. I have it set as a clean boost with almost no added compression. Really hits the front of an amp hard without losing the dynamics.

Best comp I've ever owned.

Marked for clip listening later. I have always wondered about these amps. I am betting you will do it justice \m/ That purple wolfie is

I can definitely appreciate that line of thinking and it's probably why I haven't owned one yet. The Two Notes Captor has really helped me re-visit a lot of gear I wouldn't have been able to reasonably use in the past. This is an incredibly loud amp otherwise

Same and I hardly ever use it for the compression

Dude. This sounds freakin' awesome. I love seeing you on the Z train. They just sound right.

Somebody asked about lineage. The Doc makes something for everybody.

I'm thinking all of mine are either Vox and/or Ken Fischer adjacent.
Mazerati GT
Mazerati 30th
Carmen Ghia.

I REALLY want the Blackface flavored discontinued EZG50.

Now, I'm having trouble keeping them all straight. The Nova looks cool, but I don't need channel switching.

Thanks, Gene! You and Dan have been rocking Zs for years, and I really should have listened sooner. I'm going to get a clip with the Red Army and Sunface asap

definitely got a cool marshall-y vibe to it-- but gain's a little different. nice harmonics goin on!

how's it respond to picking dynamics? that's kinda always been the selling point of trainwrecks far as i know-- i'd be curious to see how it does backing off and going light! what speaker's in it (you probably said in the OP... but i ain't paying attention :lol)

Amazingly touch sensitive!

About a 1:11 in on the LP clip I kinda back off the attack and volume. Keep in mind the entire LP clip I'm running the Sunface with the guitar volume down around 7

haha.. man, run that sumbitch wide open with nothin! i'm sure it's gonna hurt, but you gotta. my ghia sounded ungodly incendiary that way into an h30 and one of the most ridiculous things i ever heard was it into a 412 with v30/h30s.. didn't expect that!

DOH.. blow that shit up!

Oh, I should also mention that was wound up pretty good

But sadly through my Two Notes Captor because it was late last night. The amp came with V30s which I'm kinda skeptical about but we'll see once I have a chance to really crank it up without the load box. If they don't work out I have a pair of Fanes that will go perfectly with this rig.

I have a Mazerati V2. It's badass, sounds great clean, does get a little bit of grit at higher volumes, takes pedals real well. I also love amps with minimal knobs.

Antidote head has been sitting on my local CL for $1200 for a month :hmm:

Jk don’t think it would work with my band without a high gain pedal and I’m trying to stick to a self imposed gear moratorium

Right there with the comments after the LP clip that it could do metal.

Is the Maz line related to the Mazeratis? His naming is so confusing to me lol.

But yeah I agree, his amps excel for those things.

Hey Tommy, thanks bro. They're kinda hard to demo in store because they ahve to be so loud to really give it up. This one has 2 volumes, off and on

Anything above say 2 on the dial just compresses and adds gain. No real volume changes lol

But this is about 7 on the dial. At 2:00 in I roll off the neck pickup and the cleans are beautiful without any real volume drop

Z's kick ass and this one is no exception. Killer tones and riffs, Dave!

I thought I read that my Carmen Ghia was built off an old Hammond Organ reverb unit. :idk:

Dr. Z makes some killer amps. I miss my Maz 18 Jr NR. that thing had some stellar tones and the build quality is top notch. Congrats.

Hah no, my understanding is the Maz line and Mazerati are different. My understanding is a little murky but the Mazerati started as a higher powered Carmen Ghia but then Doc tweaked it some after Brad Paisley wanted something to replace his vintage AC30. Gene's the resident Mazerati expert though.
