D) For whatever reason; I never usually hit the pit. Our seats were juuuuuuuuuuuust right.
One thing I thought about over the weekend, especially after reading post after post after post about the show. No Slayer=no extreme metal. That's a fact, Jack.
I'm usually either a barricade guy or a swinging through the pit guy, so being separated from the action, calm as it seemed to be Friday night, was really weird.
As to your last point, I wonder how many subgenres of metal shot off of Slayer. Without them I doubt death metal or hardcore would have climbed to any recognizable form we have today. Right there is a huge number of subgenres branching off in every direction.
Spot on. Obviously, others were important too. But without Slayer, man. Metal would suck. Even if you don't like Slayer, themselves; the ripple effect of their existence is vast.

Now the funny thing: One of the gals I work with was asking about the show and how it was then asked, "So, Slayer? What would they have sung that I would know."
And I had to say, "Absolutely nothing. If you don't seek them out, you'll never hear them."
Amazing to be able to say that about a band that's been so huge for so long, but it's absolutely the truth. It's not like they ever gave a fuck about making the top forty. They just busted faces and kicked ass for almost forty years.

Super impressive. When they went into the Show No Mercy years in the set; I forgot just how primitive they were (and how long ago it was) when they started.
