That depends on how you define low end. While Windows and Mac machines may be similar at $6K, you can build a hell of a windows machine for 1/3 of that price with just a little basic research.

High end Windows starts a lot lower than high end Mac, IMHO. At least for consumer level machines. Professional machines might be different, depending on the field you work at..

OK. I understand that for sure.

Low end to me = under $1k. A $1k iMac is a hell of a machine however and you're right, you could probably build an equivalent Windows machine for $400/$500. Above the $1k mark, options are the key to Windows. With Mac, you are stuck with whatever you get with the Mac. Until Apple's new tower shows it's head, options will always be the thing that sets Windows machines above a Mac. Even the pro machines... options are an issue with Apple.... as of right now.

However... it depends on what you need. Apple's shitty ATI GPU's are fine for your average Designer/editor which is probably 90% of Apple's professional user base. They are fine for most games, even though most games are not on Mac. I rely on Nvidia's CUDA technology, so anything Apple is a no go for me anymore. That will most likely change soon.

Also, I have a 7 year old iMac i7 at home with 32 GB of RAM that is just as relevant today as ever. It cost about the same as an i7 PC at the time. regardless, i find the MacOS to be a bit more forgiving in general. It doesn't get clogged up easily. However, with that, every new OS update irritates me more and more as Apple tries to control everything imaginable... including what software i can download, what passwords i can use, etc. It's all shit you can turn off, but it's annoying.

That's a bit long winded i know. Sorry. All this to keep saying that neither is really superior in general, but one can be for specific things. I can get along with both. I can't stand this "one is better than the other" mentality about phones, trucks, computers. All slightly different approaches to the same thing. Pick the tool that works best for you.

Also... this machine was a powerhouse for many years for me. I just ended up needing more CPU power than an eight year old tower could provide.... hence my PC i'm on right now
