Ooooo.

This set up melded really well.

Probably because I didn't have mids upon mids upon mids.

Plus I has some girth. Major low end booty.

I love you, man, and I'mma let you finish, but you're completely wrong on that. :-q

Case in point, my Plexi reissue. Awesome amp, whose awesomnity is in no way diminished by the fact that I have a pair of dirt boxes on my board that I would use with the amp for any gig or jam session. In fact, part of the amp's impressiveness stems from the way it takes pedals. As Hugh already said:

Hugh Jaynus wrote:Well, with a single channel amp, and the need for high gain............the only practical choice are pedals.

But I'll take that a step further and say that I have actually converted fully now to the opinion that using pedals to boost a mid gain amp into high gain actually sounds better than a high gain amp. Now, the amp has to produce a good amount of awesome crunch on its own, first ~ and mine does. But using pedals/boosts to go from there allows extra tone shaping and flavoring and just makes it easier IME to get a fantastic high gain tone than I've generally gotten/heard from an amp & guitar alone.

However, I am aware that what I just posted is an opinion; therefore, I wouldn't say a dedicated high gain amp or high gain channel "sucks." Gnome sane?

No hard feelings, though ... I just can't quit you.

I'm in the stoner rock camp........loud clean amp with big lows hit with a fat fuzz or ballsy big distortion.

In my current band, I don't particularly need clean cleans....but I do need some sort of quasi-clean for a couple parts.

With the efficient speakers I use, I don't particularly get the JTM cranked up enough to really have some gain going.
I can tell it's starting to get saturated, but just on the edge of distorting.
