Probably 1 out of every 100000 would be insane enough to ask for the passwords. Non news IMO.

Idk guys. I can kinda understand why employers are interested in this. If it were completely legal I would be very tempted myself to look into the facebook accounts of everyone I interview. When you've been the person who's read through 100's of resumes every year, hired, trained, and had to fire some bad ones but not until a couple months goes by when you learn what a twat that person turned out to be, you would totally want to place as many douche filters on every fucker that comes through as possible.

Yes, I agree. In a way, it's a good thing they ask for that type of information in the interview so you can know right away how the company feels about their employees' privacy.
I've always looked at interviews as a 2-way street. I am interviewing the company just as much as they're interviewing me. So if that question comes up in an interview, that would be a good time for me to stop the interview right then and there and look for something else.

Use aliases for social media.

That guy obviously doesn't have privacy settings on, on top of using an alias. Common sense just doesn't come around often like it used to.

or on forums!

Or anywhere other than church.
I went to the Laundrymat (still remodeling my utility room) on Superbowl Sunday. The attendant had to assist me with the machine that puts $$ on my Laundry Card. I made a casual comment about it being nice that noone was there, due to the Superbowl.
She went on a rant about how God's angry at those people for watching the Superbowl, instead of being at Church.
I dont have a problem with Religious folks...but rants like that tend to irk me.

"Oh really? Did he tell you that? He sent you a text that said 'Jesus F'ing Christ, OMG these football people are pissing me off, they should be worshipping me instead of fucking Ray Lewis'? Sure, ok."

I would tell them I don't have a Facebook, but they can have my login info for the NAMBLA forum.

Err... well yeah, that's what I'm saying. It'd be one thing if they just wanted to look you up, but it's unreasonable to be wanting people's login details to be able to go right through all their stuff.

For the record, I would say "Sure, just give me access to all your legal files and financial information"

my brother is a rightwing nutjob and non-stop posts that Obama this and Dems are causing that... blah blah blah.
generally speaking, im more libertarian than anything which essentially is socially liberal, fiscally conservative.
this being said, his shit now gets blocked on my news feed because of how much BS i've had to debunk that he's posted. like, he just believes everything he sees on FB.
people like that are why they probably ask for your FB passwords

I'd think he reason behind asking for your password is that so they can prevent you from posting negative things or confidential info about the company on fb.

My buddy had a local PD ask for this info. He didn't had much to hide, so he agreed. Didn't take the job, but still. I mean the guys basically looked at it with him and have him shit about a few things and that was it. He changed his password when he left
Seems a lot of local PD's are doing this. I'm with Billy though, I'd be walking away

They can't prevent that by asking for your password

They can't prevent that by asking for your password

They also can't prevent you from changing your password the second you leave the interview.

Maybe this is a new version of one of those dumb HR questions they ask to trip you up. If you agree, they don't hire you because you've demonstrated a disregard for basic informational security procedures (Don't share passwords with anyone).

i can see it for upper level military members and for police officers (hell, theyre the police, you'd just be saving them time, really, and you must be beyond reproach)
other than that, they can suck it. though i would definitely fb "profile" (get it) my new employees if i could. leet speek or eboonics? racial epithets? religious bullshit? anything about realtiy tv or snooki? sorry, the position has been filled by a nonidiot.
