Headed to NJ. For 30 minutes.

Post by Steinmetzify »

So after working for what are essentially mom and pop shops the last few years, joining a much larger corp has some benefits. Insurance, 401k shizz, all that big company jazz.

The downsides are the tech stuff. Case in point, for that dedicated run I signed up for, I need a wee bit of additional training. 30 minutes, to be precise.

Upside is it’s 30 minutes. Downside is it’s in fucking Newark. No Zoom call, no FaceTime etc...I actually have to physically go there and do this. Flight leaves tomorrow, back here Monday.

Fuck it. For what they’re paying I’ll fly all over the country and do 30 minute classes lol

Just thought it was funny, this giant billion dollar a year company and then there’s this.

Yeah, corporations are funny like that. But good luck, you'll do great!

The bigger the corporation, the deeper the doo doo.

Have fun in scenic Newark! :D

Could be worse!

I visited a few clients in Newark... it's worn out and the low rent attracts a lot of businesses that don't need sexy NYC office space.

I grew up 15 miles north of Newark. It is a pit. As in, it literally smells bad.
Back in the 80s/90s they had a decent music scene though. So I had some fun times/gigs there. Pretty sure it's mostly gone now.

There are several live music clubs in Long Branch but, nothing in Newark.
The Stone Pony and Asbury Lanes are always cool places to play... Asbury Lanes is lots of fun.... the stage is in the middle of the bowling lanes!
I saw Dick Dale at Joey Harrison's Surf Club, in Ortley Beach, the year before Hurricane Sandy wiped out the Jersey Shore. The club was demolished.

It's also pronounced, "Nork" by those living in the Elizabeth and Union.
When I pointed it out (to an Elizabether) she demanded, "Well. how do you pronounce it!?!?!".
I replied, "New-erk". She retorted, "That's what I said!!!"

Fun fact: Norks is a British slang term for titties.

Been here since yesterday afternoon. It’s actually....kind of nice. Cheap booze, got some WC, no complaints.

Keep in mind I’ve been bitching at her to get out of UT for about 5 straight years, I’m somewhat biased lol

Smells like weed everywhere but that was to be expected. I can’t smoke because of work and that sucks but it’s nice to be somewhere that’s a bit more progressive than home.

I gotta say... I never heard of Newark being referred to as, "progressive".

Eh, anyplace you can run around with 6 ounces of weed for personal use is progressive to me lol

You would go straight to prison if you got stopped in UT with that much dope. No joke, you’d get smacked with distribution and thrown in prison.

"More progressive than Utah" is not the same thing as being "progressive."

I mean I guess that definition varies from one person to the other but North Jersey is pretty progressive overall. That's the general area I grew up in and yeah I always felt it was a good area as far as that goes.
