Re: Another shooting in Colorado
10 dead including the police officer. It's just sad. Those good people aren't coming home.
Re: Another shooting in Colorado
I saw an interview of an upset woman crying through her accounts of escaping and happening across a body.
Heartbreaking . . .
There's a video of a dude video recording just at the entrance of the market, panning on two bodies outside and one inside when, BAM BAM, two shots can be heard coming from assuming deeper inside the market. He must've just arrived at the market after the initial exodus and before the first responders.
Absolutely heartbreaking . . .

There are "mentally ill" people in every country, so why do they commit mass shootings in America at a significantly higher rate than anywhere else? I'm not commenting from a "take the guns away" perspective, so don't make that assumption, but the "mental health" argument appears every time something like this happens. How/why would the actions of mentally ill people in America be so vastly different from mentally ill people in other countries? There's a common thread here. I'm not at all convinced that it's mental health...

Yeah man, can't argue with that. I just don't get it. Most gun owners won't even point an unloaded gun at someone, let alone try to kill a bunch of people with it. That's where the mentally ill part comes into play for me. It would be much harder to shoot a bunch of people without a gun though, as you guys implied. If we didn't have guns in the US, would this guy have mowed a bunch of people down with his car? Maybe? Probably? We'll never know but again, something only an unstable person would do.

Funny how the tone of the media is instantly changing, now that the 'white male' narrative has been shot down and replaced with muslim from Syria with grudges against 'Islamaphobia'.

Exactly. I’m amazed at how glaring and obvious media’s attempts are at only portraying this as ONlY angry white man crime. Even evidenced by the title of this thread as “Another shooting”, which was most likely referring to the other white shooter at the massage parlor. I’m just curious how many knew about the Mass shooting here in Chicago just 2 weekends ago, where at least 15 were shot and numerous killed? Just 10 days ago. I think even a 10yo was among those shot, but I could have some of the shootings facts mixed up. Cause yknow, gun murders have gone up over the last year. And there was dozens of “mass shootings”. Just not the ones the news counts.
Also I wonder what the “common thread” Indy was trying to point to?
It’s all senseless and brutal and it’s a shame, but if people are gonna speak about it with some idea of “facts”, the whole picture needs to be painted. Not just one aspect. It’s getting fucking old how poisonous the media is becoming. Which can absolutely even affect how people like this decide to commit their crimes.

As evidenced by England, for example, have more mass stabbings. People who commit these crimes some are absolutely mentally unstable. Many even are being treated and on medications that have shown to effect people in negative ways. I think many of the “big” shootings that got media coverage the killer all were on anti anxiety or depression meds which may actually be a bigger problem than opiates in this country.
And some people are just filled with hate and hurt. They hate life and feel victimized and they want to take it back out on society. This is also a mental condition even if they are found to be sane. And lastly, by statistics, the mosT prevalent mass Shooter is simply and angry man involved in gangs or “street life”. It’s absolutely derived from cultural influences as well as the glorifying of violent lifestyles. It’s all of these things rolled into one. And if you take the shooting in Colorado, the one at the massage parlor and the one in Chicago, all within a few weeks time, I think all were different types of people that fall into one of the things I mentioned.

They don’t know shit about it because the perpetrator wasn’t white. How about the Dallas night club shooting a few days ago? And toss in Miami’s state of emergency while we’re at it.
Most people still haven’t figured out the mainstream media is the enemy of the people.

Well I wasn’t referring to the Atl shooting with the title, I meant ankthwr mass shooting in Colorado specifically... obviously Columbine, aurora movie theater and now this are the top 3 but there’s been plenty in between all those here too.

For what it's worth, I am aware of other recent mass shooting events. Seven in seven days where four or more people were killed, if I'm not mistaken. It could be more - not all of them make the news in my area. I also wasn't leading to any specific common thread, just making the point that it would be reasonable to think there must be. Sticking to the comment I responded to, other countries have "mentally ill" people. They don't run out and shoot each other at the frequency we see here. There has to be a reason...

Since we're already political in this thread... You would do a lot more to curb gun violence if you ended the drug war vs. going after the guns.
There are so many issues in our society that the drug war creates or exacerbates.

Just looked into the Chicago one Eric.
So wild that I didn't hear a peep about it but I'm getting endless amounts of info on Atlanta.
Anything to support the woke everything is white supremacy narrative these days.

Problem is we'd starve the prisons of people if we did that and we can't have that now can we?

It is decidedly disingenuous to infringe on the rights of law abiding citizens due to the actions of criminals and crazies.
There isnt a hint of logic, common sense or critical thought in that line of thinking

Yeah, ending the war on drugs means ending for profit prisons. And ending for profit prisons means ending lobbying by for profit prison companies. And in order to do that, we need laws enacted by those that would be cutting off their own revenue stream by ending any form of lobbying.
See where the hang-up is?

So there really aren't that many for profit prisons (only 8.4% of prisons). That said there is a prison industrial complex made up by many individuals and groups that benefit/profit off of prisons staying as full as they currently are.
Hell I remember a couple years back reading about prison barbers making over $80k (wut?) in Illinois.
But yeah agreed there are vested interests actively profiting on the war on drugs as it currently stands and that includes other, non prison realated , industries and companies (like perscription drug companies for example).
