CA is not as bad as the propaganda makes it out to be. My property taxes from my LA home are a lot lower (proportionally) than they are here in PA.

Income taxes are higher in CA for the very rich (a whopping 13.3%) but the middle class doesn't pay that rate at all or even near it, I always fell into the 6% bracket, which was not bad specially when offset by the lower property tax. Also, here in PA I pay some local, school district and county taxes that I did not pay in CA.

Never had an issue owning a gun in CA. I know there are some restrictions for semi auto rifles, but I had my Glock without any issues.

Plus I could buy my pot anywhere. Here in PA I had to pay the govt $250 every year to get a "medical card" and even then I can only buy pot vapes, no flowers, because obviously the commonwealth knows what's best for me lol
Oh and in PA the liquor stores are state owned. :freak: WTF?

Honestly, I don't miss CA at all, I got tired of it and yes cost of living is high, I hadn't bought my house there over 20 years ago I wouldn't be able to afford it today... also fuck earthquakes and wild fires ... but IMHO PA is more of a "nanny state" than CA, all things considered. Again, don't believe the propaganda. I've lived in both states and they have their pros and cons but CA is not as bad as some want to make it out to be.

Yeah, I was gonna say, that’s pretty accurate. The only items I disagree with are the crime and stupid regulations. Maybe because I’m accustomed to them.

Not gonna lie, and I ain’t proud nor ashamed of this, but I have yet to see snow fall from the sky. I’ve seen old snow on the ground, and I’ve been in hail.

CA is not what it used to be that’s for sure. Pre real estate “boom” and subsequent recession property was affordable. It’s never returned to a reasonable level and that coupled with progressively worse policy has turned things sour fast.

As a piece of land from top to bottom it’s high on the list of most beautiful state. She’ll always have mah haht

My wife's was $50 this year, and she buys flowers every week. And the state operating the liquor stores means they are the biggest buyers in the market - getting the best prices.

PA is no shining example of how to be a state

not as bad as it used to be - beer was only available at beer distributors, and liquor stores used to be closed EVERY Sunday :freak: still stupid, though

taxes and gasoline are high, but the cost of living otherwise is fairly cheap. i still chuckle when i watch those HGTV shows and a house comparable to mine lists for close to a $million in California/Vancouver/etc.

yeah right, $50 plus the cost of the doctor recertification.
And no liquor is no cheaper in PA than anywhere else.

Sorry but you're just wrong, there's no reason or justification for the govt to be involved in any of this. And frankly, I'm surprised to see you defending it.

The thing I find surprising as a European is that your electrical grid isn't interconnected across states? I get that America is frigging huge but over here you can trace nodes from the west coast of Portugal right into eastern Europe into Russia. Maybe there is good reason it's not like that, but it strikes me as a little bizarre.

There's three electric grids in America. The eastern, the western, and Texas. There are minor interconnects to the western block with Texas, but it's only enough to supply a trickle of power at any given time.

Listing WHY Texas is on its own is likely a bannable offense, and I still kinda like it here so nope.

My local public utility company in MN said that they received a 30 minute notice on Tuesday that they would need to start doing rolling blackouts. One on Tuesday and up to two on Wednesday in an effort to assist the southern states with their power needs. The Wednesday blackouts didn't happen and fortunately the one blackout we did have only lasted for 30 minutes.

I'll see if I can find the press release and map that shows how MN is connected to what is going on in the south.

Texas rugged individualism at work.
The rest of the US has interconnected sections including with Canada.

But Texas is so big and badass they don't need help from anyone else!

It is connected across state lines and up into Canada. Texas is stupid. So here they are.
