That’s the thing about caring about the environment, it’s not about saving the earth it’s about keeping as habitable as possible for humans.
Elon was in Rogan recently and I really liked his level headed point on the subject, I’m paraphrasing but he said something like “if we behave like we’re not going to be ok then we’ll be fine. If we behave like we’re going to be fine then we’re screwed.”
Probably a poor paraphrase but that was the spirit of it and I tend to agree.

Elon is also the guy that desperately wants to escape to Mars. So I take everything he says with a couple grains of salt
You never know which Elon is speaking when he opens his cakehole. Is it the lucid Elon that's spun up a couple successful companies that have helped us progress in interesting directions? Or is the stoner Elon that's six joints in and ready to spew about dogecoin while prank calling Snoop Dogg to get him in on the act?
Sometimes the lines between those two Elons get a bit blurry. Definitely an interesting character.

I think Elon should learn that hubris and bullshit are fraternal twins. They may look different, but they come from the same womb. Also, does anyone think that guy could ever get himself into shape to survive a trip to Mars? I don't. He has C-cups and looks pregnant. No way that dude will put the work in.

Yeah, I don't think he could lay off the cheeseburgers long enough to get in proper shape to do it anytime soon.
Granted, his "estimates" for when we'll get there are wildly speculative much like most of his other estimates. Will it happen? Most likely. Will it happen on his time table? Abso-fuckin-lutely not. And I say that as a fan of what SpaceX has been able to accomplish so far. I'd be far more interested in his engineering team's estimates of when what can happen, but he spouts so much bullshit about it it's hard to sort the wheat from the chaff.

yeah remember 1 million Robotaxis by 2020?
Musk is doing some cool things but he also spouts a lot of hot air to attract investors... his timetables have been nearly 100% wrong so far.

Every time he opens his mouth it kicks off a new investigation by the SEC
I appreciate many aspects about Elon. Yeah he's out there, but there is literally nobody who's a ground breaker genius who isn't also deeply flawed. That's how the outliers usually work.
We stand on the shoulders of past genius-lunatics, degenerates and abhorrent assholes. If you look at all the people who made huge impacts in one or many fields you will find unfavorable character traits. There's no way to separate these things.
There is almost nobody in history who was virtuous and relatable who made a huge splash. The trend in society to seek purity in our outliers is going to kill the ability for outliers to do their thing altogether. And then where will we be?

I don't have an issue with Elon doing what he's doing, I am just saying don't take his timetables to be anything but a fundraiser call. Other than that, more power to him and hopefully he'll keep going.

Yeah my statement was more in general, from conversations I've had with people about Elon... like my mom. lol
In general these days people are seeking saintly qualities in all people of relevance so I just wanted to use the issue of Musk as an opportunity to comment on that.

Man ain’t that the truth.
The last few years I’ve been reading more books on people I’ve considered impressive and world changing in one regard or another and that’s the one unifying lesson from them. The greatest among us have some pretty ugly undesirable traits and since they almost ALWAYS seem to be present it seems like it’s just part of the package with amazing people. This seems to hold true for business people, scientists, politicians, or athletes alike.
