Post by Devin »

Just woke up and saw Kiko Loureiro post about Alexi dying.

I was never massively in to CoB but I did like some of their stuff and Alexi was def a badass.

Sad news. I have about 4 or 5 CoB albums. Maybe not my favorite band but they were always fun to listen to. Follow the Reaper and HateCrewDeathroll were excellent IMO. And the dude was a monster player. RIP Alexi.

I got to see them live once years ago along with Municipal Waste, Lamb of God and As I Lay Dying.

My buddy actually won this contest they did for the show and he got to hang out backstage with all of them and eat boiled crawfish together. He said Alexi was cool (and drunk) as fuck

Alexi was an absolute beast. RIP. This is really sad. I'm sure there will be many tears in Finland.

A local promoter who had a lot of dealings with Alexi said around 2019 Alexi started to have some health problems and he had a habit of neglecting his heath (not eating/sleeping) to focus on playing guitar. The people around him were aware of it but apparently were unable to get him to change. Sad that he's checked out so early, but at least he got to leave his mark.

Bummer.
Was never that big into COB but always respected the fuck out of Alexi's skills.
Seriously sad to see a guy so young pass regardless. :(

Yeah total bummer. I am a pretty big Bodom fan. Bodom seemed to have a pretty good run and Alexi was definitely getting a lot of exposure and inspiring folks to shred. I was surprised to see at a time how many Scythe and Alexi model LTD's were getting posted in NGD threads on FB/forums some years back.

Was also pleasantly surprised that even in Vegas, when I saw them, how many people actually knew the words to all era's of songs. They had a pretty good impact.

Probably one of the most impactful and influential players in metal. I never listened to his work, even though the timing would make sense (high school 2005-2009). Too busy with the Fr00t rock at the time!
