Clip... Trying to figure my new monitors out...

Hey guys, I am trying my best to understand these monitors and thought I would share with you what I have recorded today. Please tell me what you guys hear, and whether this sounds like shit or not...

I played my Yamaha AES720 directly into my interface. I used GuitarHack impulses with the ReCabinet 3.5 VST and the drums are BFD Eco. I used the Nick Crow Wagner Mk2 Sharp amp simulator VST.

Sounds good! I like the tone, although I'd double track it and pan it left and right. The room mic(s) on the drums are totally squashed, but I dig it. The drums are probably too loud overall though.

Thanks bro... I didn't do any eq'ing on the drums, it was a preprocessed kit. I might have to try a dry kit and go from there. I will have to work on my guitar playing, it was pretty sloppy I imagine it would sound muddy and blurred if I put another guitar track down until I tighten up my playing.

I was going to comment on the slop, but I figured you knew and it was only a test anyway. Edit: now you've got me wanting to listen to the original.

Thanks for commenting! Damn, it is sloppy. Between my non-tight playing and a bit of latency I was really fouling it up. I definitely prefer doing a double track on guitars. I will try again, and lower the drums

I have been enjoying the original all afternoon to figure out how to record it It is a great song! And it just kicks from the get go!

I tried again... I messed with the drums and did 2 tracks with my Laney GH50L effects send. Hopefully this sounds better...

EDIT: I just watched a video of Ola Englund on how he places a mic on his cabinets which I think will help me visualize what I want to achieve with my tone and how I mic my cabinets as well as approaching impulses from now on.
