ITT: We discuss IPads

Post by Lloyd Blankfein »

I'm in the market for an iPad. So, lets discuss models, gigabyte business, apps, tools and the best cases.

This iPad will be used for mostly communication/business. Strong use with email/message of both video and picture.

Has to be somewhat resilient- it'll be in the field.

What is the deal with all the gigabyte storage? Does anyone use 32? Is 8 ok?

Plans: what is best? I need cell service and wifi availability. Is Verizon's unlimited plan the best?

Cases, what is the best? I'll be using it in my hands and setting it on the good of my truck if I need to speed type.

What mobile printers work with this baby?

Ipads suck.

Get a laptop or a smartphone.

Seriously, tablets aren't the way to go. They're not portable enough to be used like a phone and they don't function practically enough to be used like a laptop. So basically, they aren't good for anything except for playing angry birds. Therefore there is no reason to get one unless you really REALLY like playing angry birds. :/

Actually I love my old school Motorola Xoom. I use it constantly. If you need access to a bazillion apps then get an iPad. Otherwise Android is the way to go

With all the new clip-on wireless keyboards the functionality is much improved.

Don't listen to Nick H and the other tards.

If you don't need a big tablet the iPad mini is a good way to go. I really like mine and the available cases will keep it protected. Functionality is roughly the same, minus the retina display, and can be used with a number of wifi enabled printers.

If you really want to do actual work iPad might not be the best. They are made for sitting on the couch or toilet and surfing the web, check a few emails, and play angry birds as already mentioned. You said you needed it for business, have you looked at a Microsoft Surface? Or if you need more laptop like experience a Surface Pro or Lenovo Yoga which both work like a tablet or a PC.

I feel like I got away from PC stuff for a reason. I just don't like the problems that come with it, which is why I would like to stay with Apple unless there's just a huge advantage to go PC.

My business basically is emailig, communicating and filling out forms and sending them out immediately to keep my chain going. Afaik, the ipad can handle it.

I like the large ipad because of screen size. Being able to print in the field is a huge plus.

I'm more or less just wondering what size storage I'd need? 32gig? What fills these things up? Pictures, music? I got all that on my phone. I just want a bigger surface.

Who has the best plan, Verizon?

Music and videos fill up an iPad. For what you describe 16GB is probably plenty. You might go 32GB if you can afford it just in case you decide to add a bunch of stuff on it. I don't know about cellular plans, mine is WiFi only.
