Interesting Research find on the Corona... Omega 6?
Paper: https://science.sciencemag.org/content/ ... ce.abd3255
News article (more layman): https://medicalxpress.com/news/2020-09- ... spike.html
What I gather from this:
Omega 6, or Linoleic Acid (LA) is depleted by covid-19. Understanding this mechanism gives a "key" toward a drug that would neutralize this aspect of the virus - essentially neutralizing its effects.
Since the body doesn't produce omega 6 (relies on diet), it is something that can run out. LA is needed for immune function, brain function etc... Known diseases that deplete LA are known to cause system inflammation symptoms such as respiratory distress and pneumonia. These symptoms are also present in severe covid19 cases.
Previous studies also found that patients with severe covid-19 cases had depleted LA levels. The direct correlation was not made because many other factors were also off. Reduced LA would also explain weird neurological and other symptoms, since Omega 6 is also responsible for brain health and neurological pathways.
Obviously more research would reveal if taking omega supplements would help, it sure appears to make sense that it would. However, I think the research is more centered on targeting the protein spikes and preventing the virus from absorbing it, rendering it useless.
I just think its interesting that discoveries are beginning to provide better clues as to treating this virus.

Interesting. Also vitamin D is a really big issue with COVID.
A study of severe to fatal cases across several major countries, multiple continents, several races/ethnicities revealed a greater than .9 correlation with vitamin D deficiency.
I take omegas regularly anyway, and started taking vitamin D3 supplements since learning that.
None of this has been correctly emphasized in the press and media.

The actual study that I read about this said hospitalized covid peeps were at 5.1% eyeglasses wearers, while the general population is 31% or there abouts. Something about the eyes being a major vector for intake of the virus. Which makes sense. I remember the craze among the kids a while back of eyedroppering vodka cause it got ya drunk faster.
Lunatics.
Everybody knows it's the alcohol enema for true speed-drunk.

4 grams of CLA per day is probably enough. 17 grams/day is safe, but is it a waste of money?

Re: Interesting Research find on the Corona... Omega 6?
weird.
the american diet is rife with TOO much omega 6-- which in and of itself causes inflammation.
i'm not entirely suprised about the tie in to other things they've found though-- given that vitamin d is fat soluble, a major immune system modulator, and zinc is also tied in to immune function and blood sugar regulation.
helifino how they all work together.
hopefully they get 'er sorted. they do a bunch of this kind of protein mapping imagery (cryo em and NMR) where i work!

Did you guys see that the CDC updated the survival rates for Covid?

Re: Interesting Research find on the Corona... Omega 6?
Averaged out it's a 2.9% mortality rate, which is 30X worse than the flu. Covid is the #1 cause of death in Miami-Dade County since January. I think more important numbers are the rate of spread and the hospitalization rate. The rate of spread has dropped from 4.4 people infected per carrier to .98 in the U.S. The average rate of hospitilzation is 170 per 100,000. That rate goes up to 460 per 100,000 when adjusted for age 65+. The rate is 526/100,000 for blacks 50+ and 584/100,000 for hispanics 50+. For whites 50+ it's 100/100,000 and still only 282/100,000 for 65+. It's running about a 20% mortality rate for those who have been hospitalized. One study found that nearly 60 percent of those hospitalized had high blood pressure, 40 percent were obese, and about one-third had diabetes. Another study found that 10% of Coronavirus positive with cardiovascular disease died, 7.3% with diabetes, 6% with high blood pressure and 5.6% with cancer. While at larges they found .9% with no underlying health conditions died. What we are still figuring out is the number of hospitalized survivors who will have long-term complications, such as damage to the heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, central nervous system and blood vessels. We will most likely see lower life expectancy numbers for those that have been hospitalized.
