Mony mony chant?

Post by CrunchBerries »

Since i was a kid, when Billy Idol's tune would play at a party, wedding or whatever, there would always be this "Hey motherfucker get laid get fucked!" Between each verse.. but this was in Northern Ontario and also Quebec (Canada).

Is this a similar phenomenon in other countries?

Where does this even come from? It doesnt work at all with the rest of the lyrics.. as far as i can tell

It goes:

Billy: "Here she comes now sayin' Mony Mony"

(crowd) "Hey motherfucker get laid get fucked!"

Billy: "Shoot 'em down turn around come on Mony"

(crowd)"Hey motherfucker get laid get fucked!"

... and so on.

I can't think of one, but I usually want to throw my kids out of a window when we're singing happy birthday and they throw in "cha cha cha" in between each line. Drives me nuts. Ruins an already durgey song.

Fun fact. Idol said in a 1980’s interview that the reason he covered that song was because it was playing on the radio while he was shagging for the first time in some public park

There’s all kinds of crap they add to Rudolph the red nose reindeer that ruins it.

Shit like that in margaritaville and sweet Caroline too.

When I hear a crowded bar full of drunks screaming "So Good! So Good! So Good!" during Sweet Caroline, that's when I realize there is no hope for the human race and the meteor can't get here soon enough.

I think I've heard something like what you described but it's been a long time and can't be sure. Being drunk is a basic prerequisite for any of those chants

Get laid get fucked... yup, they were yelling the same thing at Long Island and NYC dance clubs in the 80's.

It was around the same time that The Roof Is On Fire was popular.
The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire
(We don't need no water, let the motherfucker burn)
(Burn, motherfucker, burn)

In our neck of the woods (Minnesota, Iowa, South Dakota) it was always "HEY SAY WHAT GET LAID GET FUCKED!" But we were close enough to Canada we probably had some spill-over.

Not really the same idea but a friend of mine’s band would always do a drum break down where they try to pump up the audience with “Shit, goddamn, get off your ass and jam”...I always got a laugh out of that.

That Billy Idol chant was rampant in Philadelphia in its day, I remember hearing it as a young teen in roller skate halls, lol. I'm guessing Billy probably shouted this during live shows and people just thought it was awesome

Rampant in rural Saskatchewan. You know you’re close to Yorkton when this kind of shit happens.

That, and when wedding reception feature a wide selection of unironic And completely intentional polka jams.

Every time I see this thread, it reminds me of how much I don’t like errant obscenities thrown around without a good reason. It cheapens the word. It’s like streaming food shows called, “fuck this tastes fucking good noms her derr”

Trashy shit. Ruining good words.
