I got my desk setup with my new Yamaha HS50M monitors. I was used to listening to all my music on a 2.1 setup previously, so I can tell that I lost some bass, but I can live with it for a while. While I lost bass, I gained more clarity, a lot more clarity! I am surprised at how much of a difference it makes to have these monitors! I plan on adding the complementary subwoofer down the road to help round out the low end frequencies. Plus, I heard that by adding a sub that it helps the monitors perform better instead of trying to power all the low end frequencies (from what I understand takes a lot of energy).
I am eager to do some guitar recording now!
Thanks to everyone who pitched in their perspectives in choosing a set of monitors!

I want to pick up a subwoofer also - just haven't come across the right deal yet.
I totally need those foam wedges! I can tell that the speakers are firing at my chest... haha... I was looking at getting a set of these from the Foam Factory.
They are $9.99 for a pack of 4, plus shipping. They seem like a better deal than buying the name brand stuff. These guys also have the acoustic foam paneling that you hang on the walls, as well as bass absorbers for the corners of the room and other types too.

The cool part about this company is that you can choose from 12 different colors of your foam to match the feng shui of the room. They aren't surface painted, but in fact fully colorized. I will keep the black and white theme, but it is cool that I could choose different colors if I wanted.
