Cable TV's, Turner Classic Movie Channel broadcast "Jazz on a Summer's Day" this evening. It's from the 1958, four day, Newport Jazz Festival.
It was my first time seeing the film and as a result, I just ordered the soundtrack CD, an Anita O'Day best of CD and a George Shearing Quintet CD, "On the Sunny Side of the Strip".
It's a really cool movie - sax player Sonny Stitt, Thelonious Munk, Louis Armstrong and even Chuck Berry are in it. The Woodstock of Jazz!
Check out the beatnik intellectuals in the audience! 50's hipsters!

My mother lived on the street over the far wall during these years. Also, chances are good that I am looking at people that I know but can't recognize because they are so young.
I love this old footage.
