Anyone Remember Keel?

Post by TraumaRN »

Loved this band in the 80's and Ron is still bringing it. Saw this recorded this month. Scroll to 50:25 for a pretty good rendition of Heaven and Hell-- starts shitty but picks up quickly.

My buddy Leonard, the guy that runs our KISS This Tribute Show was Ron's partner for years in the Country Superstars show here in Vegas. He was the other half of Ron's Big & Rich duo.

He does all Ron's video editing for his Rock n Roll cowboy stuff.

I remember Beavis and Butthead watching a Keel video and talking shit on the lead singer.

"His face sucks."
"His hair sucks too."
"His whole head sucks."
"Yeah, and his chest is no picnic either."

So ends the extent of my Keel knowledge.

They played in my town back when I was like 7th, 8th grade? Kind of a fall through the cracks sort of band, if you will. For me, at least. Not as good of songs as a Dokken, not as visually "offensive" as WASP (or good in the early years, songwise), pretty much "not as" good or striking in any way in comparison to a ton of other bands of the era. The best thing they had going for them was their logo.

Now that I have a turntable again I'll have to dig out my Steeler album which featured Ron Keel and Yngwie. I didn't hear anything on that album that made me want to listen to any of Keel's material.

Keel had like 3 songs total that I dug. My brother was a huge fan. He liked bad music though.

Only time I could stand Keel's voice was while part of Steeler, and that was only a passing phase for me.... Best thing that ever came out of his mouth was proclaiming Yngwie "a penis with fingers"
