It does make they look "tough" to ignorant voters, which is the real goal here...

This is aimed at the same group of people who believe that China is paying all of those tariffs on Chinese goods coming into the US. Cletus and Brandine approved :thu:

Speaking of conspiracy theories... I have a hard time believing the lab in Wuhan set up to study Coronaviruses is purely coincidental. I don't think it was purposeful bioterrorism, but I could definitely see an inept Communist government employee fucking up safety protocols. Then again I don't have a hard time believing that only a Chinese wet market could find the reservoir/activator link between a fucking pangolin (or whatever it is) and a bat.

Would you think differently if it was some inept capitalist employee in a Western country who fucked up protocols? Cause that has happened... and not just once. I know it’s easy to blame this on some foreign country and act like it’s a big conspiracy, but if this is the case it’s more likely just due to humans being inept in general.

Yeah it's kind of a moot point since the whole fucking city is a giant safety protocol fuck up.

Its kinda like wondering if you got HIV from the 2nd hand heroin needle you used in the morning or the butt sex you got in jail when you were arrested later that day.

I don't think my comments were political at all. I was careful not to bring left/right politics in them. But I think there is a point in discussing how economic trends can hurt/help our ability to respond to emergencies.

But you're also right that was a huge tangent. Now back to coronavirus.

Back in the 90's there was a party game that revolved around the Deep Thoughts by Jack Handy books. Basically people got stoned to the Bajesus and then passed the book around and each person had to try to read a Deep Thought out loud without laughing. Sounds easy, but sometimes the book would be with the same person for a long time bcuz they couldn't get the whole thing out without bursting out laughing.

That game has been reinvented as the Qanon game. The conspiracy theories that are promoted are so bat shit loony tunes that reading them without bursting into hysterical laughter is very difficult. The comic value of the site is off the charts. Pure fucking hilarity. The game is even better if everyone wears tinfoil hats :thu:

First off mojo for you, and your family's suffering.

This is a mad virus, it seems to be affecting different people in different ways.

I'm now at day 33, on Monday the covid centre doctor said I'm clear of the virus, and other possible complications, yet last weekend was probably the worst I've felt, struggling with breathing, and pissing with sweat even though I no longer have a temperature. :idk: Fortunately, my breathing is good again, and I'm not burning up anymore, but I've still got the headache and dizziness that's lasted over a month. The staff told me they'd had several people reporting similar issues.

On the docs advice, I'm currently doing 3 days of co-codamol and ibuprofen, rather than just the regular advised paracetamol, we'll see how that goes. All of this seems strange considering that I only had mild symptoms of the virus initially, it would appear that it's a sneaky bastard, the aftermath has been worse than the actual illness felt.

Hang in there dude.

Thanks man. Same to you. Truth be told, I’m kinda one of these guys who even tho I had it, I think everything is so overblown. Maybe I’m lucky? But I think I’m way more than norm than not..

Anyway, I do agree with you there seems to be some post issues that are a little more worrisome than when I had it. As I mentioned before I have a lung disease and have some shortness of breath anyway. And that really didn’t get flared up much, but there have been a few times in my sleep where I’m dreaming I can’t breath and I can’t wake up. And gonna be honest that has scared me recently the most. Because I don’t believe it’s simply a dream but I’m dreaming it because I’m struggling with my breath during my sleep. And yesterday was the 3rd time that I sorta recognize I’m dreaming and I’m struggling with breathing but I can’t wake up. Man I hate that. I can’t say I’ve experienced that sorta sleep paralysis at any other time in my life. And it’s making me slightly scared to sleep.

I had epilepsy when I was a child, which I treated and eventually outgrew but as a side effect I've been dealing with sleep paralysis my entire life. I actually just woke up from an episode now.

Sleep paralysis is usually not really related to a respiratory condition. It's more like a seizure while you're asleep. Yes it does feel like you can't breath but it's not in fact affecting your breathing.

Now you could be dealing with sleep apnea, which is a different condition and I can see like something like coronavirus could cause it or make it worse

What else are you feeling when you have these episodes?

Interesting. Yeah def could be sleep apnea related.. Never really had that or ever felt that was an issue besides perhaps some isolated incidents where I can recall that.

As far as what Im feeling? Not sure how to answer or if I even recognize anything else of note. Just that I usually recognize that Im in a dream and can't wake up even tho Im kinda trying to. If that makes sense..

OK I'll describe what a sleep paralysis episode feels like to me and you can tell me if this is the same thing you're experiencing:

1- I'm dreaming so it's REM phase of sleep

2 the dream turns nightmarish or uncomfortable

3- I feel an electrical discharge in my brain. It's not painful just a big bzzzzzzzzzzzt type thing

4- I wake up. I know I'm awake because my eyes are open and I can clearly see my surroundings

5- can't move and feel like I'm choking. Sometimes I have "out of body" experiences or see things/people in the room. This is because my brain is stuck between a dream state and being awake

6- eventually I snap out of it. If my wife sees that I'm paralyzed and shakes me or touches me, that brings me out of it.

These episodes only last a few seconds but my sense of time is different in that state so they can feel like several minutes to an hour.

Does that sound like what's happening with you?

I've had this all my life. Literally thousands of episodes. These days, CBD helps me a lot and reduces it from daily or even several times a night to a few times a week. It used to scare me shitless but I've done several sleep studies and brain scans over the years so at this point I just know what's happening and stay calm. It's not a life threatening condition.

It definitely turns nightmarish.

I wouldn’t say I’m paralyzed after awaking but yesterday even after I woke up, it’s like I wasn’t up. And I had to really “push” to come out of it. Then my eyes sorta were able to focus. Otherwise I felt completely fucked up when I first opened my eyes, which like I said I knew I had my eyes open but it was like I was being pulled back Into the nightmare. Like I “fought” to stay awake, then my eyes were able to focus. Yeah the entire thing after opening my eyes was literally 5 seconds but it felt like life and death ! Haha. I didnt want to fall back asleep. Or I should say I didn’t want to be left in that state where I know my eyes are open but I couldn’t “come to”. Perhaps that was also because I couldn’t move. I really can’t say if that was the issue as I was more concerned with getting my mind to kind of snap awake

But that sounds terrible to have anything like what I have had on any kind of regular basis... It is scary. I’ve only had it 3 times, but those 3 times have all been in the last month since I was sick. I can’t recall ever that happening before

It does sound like you're dealing with sleep paralysis. It's sort of strange that it started around the coronavirus thing, but I really don't think it's related to it. Although it's a new virus so who knows. I'd mention this to a doctor and see what they say.

I'd also recommend you getting an electroencephalogram as soon as you can because this is usually brain related and while sleep paralysis is not life threatening on itself, it is usually a sign of an underlying condition (in my case a leftover effect from severe childhood epilepsy) that could be completely harmless or very serious. Get this checked out man.

I'm not as terrified of it as I used to be before I understood what it is, but I'll never get used to it. The other name for it is "night terrors" and its a fitting name.

It completely wrecks the quality of my sleep and I've battled insomnia, extreme tiredness etc over the years from just not wanting to fall asleep when I feel I'm going to have an episode. It certainly beats the severe epilepsy I had before though, but it's still awful.

I had 3 or 4 nights last week/weekend where i was really struggling to sleep/kept waking due to breathing issues, I was also rather concerned at that point, tbh, when I was lying in bed I wasn't entirely confident that I would be waking up the next morning. It was at this point that I felt the need to get checked out by the docs, if you're not sure then I suggest you do the same, just the peace of mind it gave me made me feel much more relaxed.

It does seem this shit can go on for quite a while after the virus has gone, 5 or 6 weeks isn't uncommon, hopefully you're over the worst, best of luck dude.

^ That's why I'll be glad when reliable and cost-effective tests for the virus (both current infections and "antibody") are readily available. As previously mentioned, I have had all of the common symptoms, excluding a known fever. I continue to lack any real energy and I have a dry hack/cough. I don't want to make assumptions and I would really like to know for "peace of mind" and future reaction planning if it resurges. I honestly think it's a gamble to open up anything large-scale without adequate testing. Seems incredibly risky.

On a related note, I got an email from my boss. When we do go back to work (timing still unknown), it will be in phases and I'm in "Phase 3" (the last phase). Essentially, if you can work effectively from home three or more days a week, you go back last. I'm pretty sure that "Phase 3" is code for "Shows signs of insanity - maintain isolation"

New JAMA study...

"One other surprising finding from the study was that 70 percent of the patients sick enough to be admitted to the hospital did not have a fever. Fever is currently listed as the top symptom of covid-19 by the CDC, and for weeks, many testing centers for the virus turned away patients if they did not have one".

Yeah testing needs to be widely available asap. There's no moving past this without proper testing.
My county is doing well as far ad that goes and they had rapid test available for all county residents that wanted one. Really surprised me actually. But there are not a whole lot of cases here to begin with and people are doing really well with social distancing, masks etc around here.

I live 35 miles from Indy and I have no idea where to go for a test. If I really felt like I needed it, I'd probably have to go to my family doctor to get a recommendation. It's going to need to be much easier and far more available than that to get a comfort level for "re-opening"...

So, our plant just shifted to four day work weeks after years of having five solid days and usually three Saturdays a month. That's gonna be rough on some hourly folks, but this is what we did during the last big economic downturn rather than lay people off. Right now a job is a job, and most would rather work four days a week than face possible job loss.

And our dipshit officials are allowing the race tracks to open this weekend. For fuck sake.

I don't scare easily , the affect on the lungs is down right scary though but even more scary is this new blood clotting connection that is now showing itself . Young people in good health with no symptoms having sudden strokes then testing positive . That has my attention . Fuuuuuuuu

Is it just me or are you guys doing this too:

*Sneezes* - Oh shit... is this it?
Later on *Clears throat* - Oh shit, is my throat sore? Is THIS it?

*Feels hot* - Oh fuck is this a fever? (checks - no fever) oh..

---> Almost every day since mid march? Its like I'm hyper sensitive to my body and have NEVER paid this much attention to symptoms that usually would never had raised suspicion at all.
