Damn, that just sucks.
I got told today that my hours got cut from 40 per week to 15 for however long, and that makes me one of the lucky ones.
Two guys in my department got furloughed altogether, though they can still keep their insurance, another announced his retirement at the end of April earlier this week, and is going to be working 20 hours per week until then. That leaves one person I know of still on full time, with one other possibly doing full or part time, plus a salaried manager.
We're a small company that laid off around 25% of its work force last Thursday, including two others in my department. So in one week's time we've had about a 65% reduction in manhours, which will go over 70% by the end of the month if no one else gets further axed.

On the flipside we are spending less because of this stuff.
Yeah, that last sentence. The only thing I've purchased since this started aside from standard groceries is a chair for sitting at home 'cause the kitchen chairs I've been using suck balls for sitting on the computer all day. Of course, it was deemed non-essential and won't ship for over a month, so that was a wise purchase.

That's great news. Hopefully the preventative measures that California has taken minimizes the time frame this has to be dealt with. That way, the local economy can maybe start getting back up and running sooner.

Hellz yeah.
Ardbeg, Laphroaig rank pretty similarly for me on the Islay scotch scale.
Bowmore is a lower level smoke punch, but still quite tasty.
Lagavulin is like easy sippin' compared to the harder hitters, but does have a nice weighty mouth feel.
At one time I had six different types of Laphroaig, two Ardbegs and a couple Bowmores in the house. Laphroaig Quarter Cask and Cask Strength are my absolute faves.

I always have a bottle of some kind of Ardbeg, Lagavulin, and Laphroaig on hand.
Current stash: Lagavulin 15 (this is what I always keep in my fancy decanter) Lagavulin GoT Editon Lagavulin 8 Laphroaig 10 Laphroaig Select Ardbeg 10
As you can tell I'm all in in Islay scotches, I literally don't buy anything else. Also FWIW I drink this stuff SLOW. Thats why I like Laphroaig 10 though, its the best scotch for the price hands down IMO. Sure I like the smoothness of Laga 15 more but who can afford to drink that stuff on the regular?
Guitars: ESP Eclipse, JR Tele, Gibson LP Tribute, Gibson Government Explorer S I/II, Yamaha FGX830C, Balaguer Goliath, Squire Jazz Bass Maps: Egnater Armageddon, 5153 50W Stealth, Quilter, Ashdown RM500 Cabs: Bogner 4x12, Bogner OS 2x12, Randall MTS 2x12, Eden D410XLT
I actually like the punch of Laphroaig way more than I like Lagavulin. Lagavulin is what the newcomers to peat can tolerate. Laphroaig, especially the higher proof Laphroaigs, are just damn fine peat/smoke punches to the mouth.
And I know it's sacrilege to some, but Laphroaig cocktails are the stuff of legend. Blood and sand with a good cask strength Laphroaig? FUCK MY FACE HOLE WITH THAT RIGHT NOW! It's just cherry brandy, orange juice and scotch tossed with some ice and garnished with an orange slice and cherry. So damn tasty. The tartness of the orange, the sweetness of the cherry, and the smoke punch rounding it out with that leathery aftertaste? Beautiful.

Yeah. If we layoff down the line, it will be because the economy never made it to 3rd gear from 1st.
Los Angeles (at the moment) and the rest of the state seem to have started to see the benefits of the quarantine. We're expecting our first wave peak to come over the next couple of weeks.

I have a bad feeling the economy may not actually get back into any gear for a while. And even when it does, we're all going to operate in a different way. "Normal" will be something entirely new.

Life will definitely be different, forever. It's up to us how much silver lining gets plucked from this situation.
I hope everyone is still washing hands more often at least. Like that would be good.

I am very afraid of this. I've worked my entire 36 year career planning and marketing B2B conferences and trade shows. I could see that entire industry disappearing, or at the very least many companies in it ceasing to exist if bans on public gatherings extend into the fall.
We've now had a round of out and out layoffs, then a week later a second round of furloughs and hour reductions. I'm down to 15 hours a week for however long, and I'm one of the few left there who are actually drawing any income at all.
Where I work at, they instituted 2 week mandatory furloughs starting in April and ends in May. To me that means, I get a reduced paycheck for two month, and then we'll see what happens. I am forever optimistic about what's going on and will think we'll be on the upswing come late May early June. *fingers crossed*
