They are cool, and have great musicians. The guitarist used a Metal Zone in his rig for the longest time, probably for a boost...

I think this song is awesome. I think the drumming is actually awesome on this song. Perfect amount of playing, not too much and not too basic. Compliments everything very well.

I'd say maybe Dose or one of their live albums although I figure you'll get the full live experience in a few months.

Gov't mule last few albums have been pretty weak IMO, and I HATE Gordie Johnson's producing (even though I dig is band Grady). The tone on High and Mighty is fucking terrible. The whole mix is terrible.

I haven't even really listened to the last one that came out cause the few before it were so disappointing. That said Dose is a masterpiece.

Man , I REALLY dig Gordie's production style. H&M is sonically one of my favorite albums of all time. I love how you can really hear the room on that album. You can hear the air moving in the kick drum. You can hear the wood in the room in the guitar tone. Sounds like he mic'ed everything with LDC's and let everyone rip in the same room. Big fan of that sound personally

This sounds like you're describing the Dose album to me. Which is some of my favorite production of all time. Gordie's recorded guitars always sound too soft/mushy to me. A good example is the guitar sound on Honky's Balls Out Inn. The first time I heard the guitar on that album I asked Justin if Bobby had used Gordie's modded Twin, cause it sounded like a Randall RG100. :lol:

At the same time, I love the bass tone Pinkus got. It's dirty but still FAT sounding.

His production sounds blurry to me, and his low end always sounds too low. Instead of kicking you in the chest it's boomy and sounds like it bleeds into everything else. I love it with Grady, because its so raw it fits the style. With Gov't Mule it sounds too raunchy IMO. :idk:

Truth be told , I didnt even realize Gordie worked on Balls Out Inn. I agree on all topics regarding that album. Pinkus' tone is great on that record. I think the tones on the new Honky sound like shit comparatively .

So I put on High and Mighty the other day after posting and it's not as bad as I remember. For some reason I was disappointed in that album when it came out but it's not bad. Hell, it is Gov't Mule after all.

On a semi related note, I love the production on the live double album The Deepest End.

Necrobumping this old ass thread, because I've been ignorant to the Mule until now and wanted to say thanks for all the suggestions. I've got Dose on my earphones at work and I'm only at the first track but it's killer. A lot of good things to listen to here.

You know about that time I was a kid, maybe pre teen so that passed me by. Plus when it came to southern rock, it was more Skynyrd and Outlaws for me. That being said I will gladly listen to some recommendations.
