what will you guys miss most about HCAF?
Share your laments and regrets about leaving HCAF and what you will miss the most. I ahve a feeling that this is going to be permament. We will miss out on the classifieds and that is probably the worst thing about this. Many of us relied on the classifieds to make some extra money or to find somebody to trade with.

Re: what will you guys miss most about HCAF?
HCAF was a community, not a URL. If the brethren comes here there's really nothing to miss. There is such a richness to said community, from lulz to expert advice, babes ad infinitum it's too big a task to list it all. Suffice it to say the outcry and backlash we've seen every time they fuck up the forum is telling enough.
O/T: Billy, what's your plan if this place grows monstrously and forces you into higher priced plans? Presumably you're on the personal starter at $9/month in order to get URL redirection and are picking up the tab. Will you ask for donations, incorporate diminutive ads or ... what?
O/T2: At this stage a one man admin team is more than enough. If you get to the point you need some help i'll offer mine now. I was the admin for one of the largest programmer's forums (about 1/2 million posts) for about 5 years. It was initially phBB based, later on, and to this day SMF. Wouldn't call myself an expert but I was able to do everything we needed to do throughout those years, doing everything from custom graphics, CSS tweaks, backup, yada.
Anyway, best of luck with this forum, hope the community fully embraces it and ditches HC for good.

yeah I would be willing to donate whatever is needed to help run the site billy. I also think that Izzy is willing to shoop cocks on peoples heads as well.

Re: what will you guys miss most about HCAF?
An aside, we ran our forum 100% on voluntary, no pressure donations. We had a thread where we'd acknowledge donators (if they desired) without revealing the amounts, just a public "Thanks!". We ran the forum from our own servers, did our own backups yada. We didn't always cover all costs, especially at the beginning, so the owner and admins ended up paying for it out of our own pockets. We were adamant we'd never have ads, 9 years later the forum is alive and well -- and still ad free.

Re: what will you guys miss most about HCAF?
HCAF was about the most honest place I've found on the web. If you could handle the abuse, you fit in fine. If you were a wanker, you were called out or chased off. The virtual beatings were epic. But so were the situations where we would donate cash/gear or give condolences to help out another forumite.
Razorblade Ray is probably my favorite example. What started off as a total spoof, turned into a lovefest. Guy gets his balls busted. Handles it like a champ. Then gets mailed a bunch of equiptment. Where else on the web does that happen?

Hi Izzy,
Quite a bit more than $9/month because I need enough page views limit and bandwidth for the forum to operate properly but it's manageable. I have made good decisions in my life and I am in a position where I can afford to this. HCAF has been a GREAT community to me and I want to give it back to that community.
If it gets to the point where it's too big and the costs are too high, then I will figure it out. Maybe a donation system, volunteers to help me with the administration will be needed at that point.
We will cross that bridge if/when we get to it and we will do it together. I will be honest and open with you guys at all times. But at the moment, we're good

Should you need a few bucks along the way, I will be happy to donate.
Provided I can sit on the executive board and make decisions in the best interests of shareholders and advertisers. Since we need to squeeze the life out of every penny. Oh, I will also send you a list of words and phrases that we need to censor. So as not to upset the church-goers.
We'll start by slashing employee benefits and wages.

I told Bill that I would be more than happy to shell out some cash in lieu of using ads. Should this place grow to needing it's own dedicated server, then things could get tricky, but setting up donations shouldn't be a problem. It seems like all the good guys have made it over here, the ones who always were willing to help and donate various things. So I'd think people would chip in if needed.

What I hate about all this is we are all getting split up. There are a lot of forums going up and we have a split of our guys between them.
