Cella is made with tallo, aka: beef fat. Cella is harder to wash off than most soap... it could be clogging your pours.

I get ingrown hairs and bumps if I shave too close.
When you wet your beard, the hairs get a bit longer and when your beard drys, the hairs get a bit shorter.
I have OCD with getting a baby butt smooth shave so, I stretch my skin to expose more of the hair.
The OCD means, I have to have a BBS while my face is wet... when my beard drys, it retracts under the skin and during the day, my skin begins to close up over some of the shortest hairs, causing bumps and ingrown hairs.
I know that I don't have to have a BBS when my beard is wet because a wet DFS or even a SAS will dry into a BBS... I just keep being stupid.

Dudes, I ended up with a big zit that wouldn't pop that feels like an ingrown because I used a fuckin balm the other day. Gosh, I hate balms. They suck. I wish the "alcohol is bad for your face" urban myth would fucking die. It's bullshit. I seriously think it started with American Psycho when Bateman was doing his beauty routine.

Then, with the import restrictions on alcohol splashes, the big companies see an opportunity to lie about the harms of alcohol in beauty products. It's bullshit. Ever wonder why they went to solid colognes and roll-on colognes? Plus, no import/export restrictions on a cream/oil/witch hazel/grease/scent monstrosity.

Use what works. Balm shit does not work for me.

Went vintage. Back to the roots. Not messing around. Still rolling along in Soap Commander week. I need to use Endurance more often, because I think it's Carrie's best soap. The scent just rules. The performance is stupid easy. Supposed to smell like vintage old spice. I think this smells better, fwiw.

Black tip 40's Gillette. Too mild. I much prefer the 40's super speed. That said, it was comfortable shave that didn't make me mad.

Winner blade shave 2. This blade rocks. Haven't found any glaring problems yet. We'll see what happens on the 2nd Winner blade.

B&M Reserve Classic. This is one of my favorite splashes ever. I love the idea behind this one. It's based on Gillette's Sun Up aftershave. It's like a dank, musty old spice. It smells JUST like my mid century modern bachelor pad. It brings me right back to a time about which I romanticize. It's amazing. Not too sweet. Just perfect.

Oh, and I whipped out the 24 barrel badger. What a great design. Amazing.

I'm giving today a 9/10 just because the razor was too mild.

SOTD 8-9-19
- Broke out my new/old Gillette Stickey - what a great razor! I don't know why they stopped making them.
- The toothpaste tube is full of Poraso Green. I ordered a regular, metal tube and when it arrived, it turned out to be the large, plastic refill container with a hole in it.
I squeezed it out into two camping tubes that I had.
The camping tubes were meant for peanut butter and jelly but, since I haven't been camping in over 20 years and prolly will never go again, they worked out just fine.
- Sputink blades ROCK!!! The Russians are good at making DE blades, tubes and tough women.
- The St Barts is OK... kind of a strange scent... it smells like the beach when your surrounded by a lot of people wearing different suntan lotions. After the St Barts dried, I hit it with a splash of Adagio - they go together well.
The Adagio saved the shave... FnA!!! 10/10

Shaved with the new Rockwell 6S tonight on #5. I thought it was a very nice shave, I decided to use the blades that came with the razor and they were OK, nothing spectacular. RazoRock XXX and finished with Amici.

Nice man, let me know what you think. Remember what I said, it’s probably the thirstiest soap I’ve tried yet, don’t be afraid to drown it. Definitely want at least two more from those guys.

So I flipped Gene a soap/AS set that I dug ok but P hated. Just said whatever man, it's yours, not like you haven't sent me free shit.

Random post a couple days later he says he's sending me something, but not to worry cause it's small.

This is Gene's version of small:

RETALIATOR!!

Dig it man, especially that Ikon head, gonna hit the shower and give it a shot. Also stoked on the Sputniks and the Gillette Platinums, both ones I've been wanting to try. ALSO stoked on the different Super Maxes, all I've tried out of the brand is the Platinum.

Thanks brother, appreciate you.

So tried the Ikon just now.....hadn't shaved for maybe 3 days, and this one has an OC on one side, SB on the other. Did OC first pass, then switched. This thing is a fuckin beast. BBS 3 pass, one weeper cause I almost always grab one in that spot on a new razor.

Also did something stupid which I do every time Gene kicks me a care package, which is try a new razor with a new blade. I did the Gillette Platinums, and I gotta say I'm with Gene on this stuff....my #1 blade is the Super Max Blue Diamond Platinum, they just feel smoother.....and most platinums do IME. I'll try the Sputniks tomorrow and see what's up.

9.5/10, just for the weeper. I'll get this fucker down tho, it's a monster and glad to own one.

Also, can we have a Moment Of Silence please?

So I had this trimmer...I took this thing everywhere when I had to travel....out of the state, out of the country, 21 moves, 15 different states, there were weeks and months where this was my only shave, for over 25 years. This thing is older than my daughter, it's been here her entire life and she's seemingly (at 19 lol) unable to believe it's gone:

Image

Bit the dust a couple mornings ago....had it charging, went to trim my moustache, it's over. The signs were there.....wouldn't charge all the way, mini trimmer wasn't working anymore etc.....but I thought I might have a few months left. Alas, it was not to be.

Goodbye old friend...and sincerely, thank you.

New hotness:

Image

Told my wife I needed something or she was going to get a mouth of moustache every time we kissed....took about 3 days before this showed up.

Works well, it's light, I hate it because it's not my old friend.

Grieve with me fellas....

It sucks when products get discontinued or when boutique makers retire.
I was really bummed when Burt's Bees stopped making their Bay Rum Balm. I bought four new-old-stock on eBay and eventually that ran out.
It was the absolute best Bay Rum Balm ever made. Check out the list of ingredients... I've always wanted to try to recreate it on my own.

Experimental SOTD

Image

Wanted to use the Ikon again, especially after talking to Geno last night and he told me the base plate was flippable for more aggression. MOAR AGGRO!!

Used the Euromax blade, which is a knockoff of my beloved Super Max Blue Diamond according to Gene.

Dude, this was fine....more aggro on the head, supremely good lather from the SC Zeal sample you sent, and the Euromax....is it as good as the SMBD? Almost, to me....it's a little sharper and not as smooth, but other than that if you told me it was the same blade I'd believe you for the most part.

2 pass DFS, no issues, not even a cut.

I really like this razor....I'm a fan of big heavy heads on thick heavy handles, which is one of the reasons I settled on my Timeless as a #1 on that Maggards MR8 handle. This thing costs WAY less and is pretty close as far as the shave goes. It only fails in one area which is under my back right side jawline area, there's a weird splay there where the hair grows in all different directions and this head is too big to comfortably get at it...I have to buff a lot with it and it's rough. The Timeless is smaller and more easily able to get into that area, less buffing needed. Other than that, I could use this as a daily #1 no problem. It's awesome.

I didn’t want to oversell the euromax. It’s a truly decent blade. I actually find it plenty smooth, just not quite sharp enough.

Btw, zeal smells exactly like the old gentleman’s quarter blackberry sage. Like identical. Colleen was one of the first artisan shave soap makers on the scene back in 2007, then she disappeared for like 5 years.

New blade, new aftershave.

This Jack Rubie Gillette Platinum was very intersting. It's not super smooth. It doesn't slide around like an over-caffeinated greased up cheetah wearing rollerskates on a ski jump. That said, I got a near BBS in just under 2 passes. The results are ridiculously good.

The Royall Aftershaves are so damned interesting. I used to use the lime, bay rum, and mandarin. But, I got totally burned out on them, and decided they either burned, or smelled terrible. Fast forward, I'm using some of the flavors I used to thumb my nose at, and I'm really enjoying them. This Muske is kind of over the top. I love it.

The soap commander kicked ass as always.

The blackbird kicked ass. the brush kicked ass.

Today is a definite 10/10
