LED ZEPPLIN HEARTBREAKER

One of the worst guitar solos ever allowed on wax.

THIS. 100%.

Killer song that just stops randomly to allow 2 dudes to masturbate on tape.

I 100% disagree with this opinion. Man that song was the f'ing shit, and that solo (not sure what you mean by "2 dudes") is a rock guitar solo classic if there ever was one. Not sure if you guys were around yet when it was released, but I just have to say growing up in the 70's and listening to all those incredible bands back then, I consider myself to be very lucky. As a 30ish friend told, "You had Led Zep, I had Nickelback".

Just curious; I guess both you of guys can play that lead to Heartbreaker perfectly?

Whether or not I can play it perfectly is irrelevant because clearly JP couldn’t play it perfectly either.

that's the beauty of that solo. No matter how much I think I fucked it up, I really didn't. As long as the behind the nut bendy part's in the right place, it always finishes with a great crowd response.

It's like 6 to 1 with G-Zod losing the argument.

Heartbreaker solo sucks G-Zod. Looks like you're just going to have to deal with it.

I was trolling. I picked 2 solos I think are great. Sweet Child of Mine is way overplayed, and I skip it when it comes on, but I can’t say it’s not good.

People are just expressing their opinion, no matter how incorrect they may be, I have no problem with that, so really no "argument" going on here. Maybe some folks are not putting it in the proper context. I will give you just a 4 out of 10 on your lame troll attempt.

I will bet you $10 though that you can't post a decent clip of yourself playing this half a century old "lame" guitar solo. Oh, it's just "one guy" playing that btw lol

7-4 after adding in diddlybo and goldstarguitar, who actually plays the solo live for adoring crowds.

Hmmmmm heartbreaker by zeppelin? ... :hmm: :hmm:

The solo sounds like its out of whack and Jimmy is falling down a flight of stairs, BUT he ends up on his feet at the end of it :idk: Still unsure of that solo

Most Kerry King solos sound like a cat trying to play Nintendo

Not that my opinion matters, but the Heartbreaker solo is choppy, erratic and at least 50% mindless wanking. But it's also epic. I know every single nuance, in my mind if not on the fret board, because I've heard it a thousand times. I wouldn't have listened to it that much if it really sucked. It's all about context and comparison. If you're looking for Guthrie Govan speed, dexterity and smoothness, you're in the wrong place. As an innovative rock & roll guitar hero on his way to becoming a legend, Page was the shit. And, for that time, so was that solo...

really 6-3. I guess it wasn't clear that I like that solo.

When it comes to Page, Sloppy and good aren't mutually exclusive.

To me, what makes a solo good/great is it's ability to be memorable, like lyrics. Page was sloppy, but his solos are distinctive. Most of them can be recalled note for note. As opposed to say, Angus young. Great pentatonic player, but 90% of his solos are just wankery. I can think of only a couple that are memorable note-by-note.

Actually they sound more like someone hitting a baby with a cat, but I agree with the sentiment. :thu:

I picked up on that, see my post a few above yours. And I agree with what you said about his solos being distinctive and memorable. In this case the solo is also an important part of the song arrangement. It's exactly what the song needed at that particular time.
