Yeah, it is. Bana was great but Cumberbatch definitely kicks it up a notch. :hi5:

god damn.. it was a great, though some parts were a little predictable and I'm not sure how I felt about a particular continuity issue but... it was highly entertaining though... and Alice Eve as Dr Marcus... WOW... she is just a hottie all round

My true nerd opinion and response to some critics:

I remember watching the original series as a kid in the 70's. I still remember the absolute awe of seeing the new Enterprise in the otherwise horrible Star Trek: The Movie.

I loved pretty much everything about STID. I giggled at the Christine Chapel reference. I immediately knew who Benni Cumbi was as soon as Spock said, "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few"; when he said his real first name, I mentally filled in his middle and last names. I almost fell out of my seat when Carol's real name was revealed.

Even die-hard fans know that Star Trek is Science Fantasy. Catching each other in warp? Shooting while at warp? Heck, being underwater is a cake walk!

yeah... my only gripe with it was some time line issues... if future Spock was left out the mix it would all be perfect, the mere inclusion of him kinda messes up time line things in my head... there other things I have minor issues with but that would mean spoilers. On the whole though the movie was reallllly entertaining I would look at it again for sure.

Abrams used the fist movie to basically throw away the original timeline (how does the Federation already know about Romulans?!?!?!) and I'm good with that. However, if the Borg show up, I will be pissed!

yeah... I'm wasn't really a fan of Next Generation... so I hope the Borg stays FAR away.... I'm looking forward to a big Klingon story line if/when the next one comes along...

I would assume this is the last movie correct? I mean, it seems to end where the original series begins. I mean, there is a revised timeline, but it would seem silly to make another one. Unless I'm reading into that wrong.

I dunno... there are lots of possibilities really.. but I'm not expecting anything soon since JJ Abrahams will be busy with Star Wars, unless they go with another director...

Gotcha dude. I just feel like at its heart Star Wars is a space western and Firefly is the best space western I've ever seen.

eh...yes and no.
The setting, plot, and main characters of episode IV, V, and VI would DEFINITELY qualify those installments as such. What it's become, especially with some of the novels that are now accepted as canon, not so much anymore. The upcoming movies COULD go space western, depends on the where, when, who, and why though. :D Would love to see what Whedon would do with that. :thu:

But let me keep from further derailing this thread. Saw Into Darkness last night. IT WAS AWESOME.
