Prelude670 - take Gene (Broslinger) up on his offer for a care package.
He will send you a bunch of stuff to try out.... he has an insane amount of inventory and needs your help to make room for a constant stream of incoming supplies.
He sent a bunch of cool stuff to me and Stein.

The Art of Shaving is definitely overpriced but, I think their Sandlewood aftershave balm is the bomb!!! Best Sandlewood AS ever.
You're doing it the right way... one razor, keep it simple and save money.
FWIW, AOS Sandalwood IS considered a masterpiece. Fine (the brand) Sandalwood scented aftershave and soap are based on Art of Shaving Sandalwood.
All of the Fine stuff is based on something else.
L'Orange Noir is a REALLY good Terre D'Hermes clone.

Re: Gillette
Occams has a new single edge (Artist Club blade) razor. I like how it doesn't have the side bumpers, like the orignal... the handle looks pretty cool too!
It's on sale for $75.... I just spent $300 on a pedal so, the budget is a bit tight.

It's a single edge, Artist Club size blade... not a cartridge (injector) loader.
The Occams SE handle has a slot in the back that lets you slide the blade in place.
Artist Club blades are sold in boxes that look like injectors but, they don't have the injector tab that pushes out the old blade.

Injectors are a bit different... and they are still a thing! People still use them.

What? Mine was purchased at a health food store as a bottle as seen in the pics.
BTW, EAST EGG.
I'm not sure I like it. The violet and geranium really dominate. It smells like scented markers. Like a perfume a little girl would play with when her mom discards it.
I don't know about this.

Re: Gillette
sotd

This shit was COLD, I loved it. Man I really can't get over what a difference that little fat handle made on the Timeless, this thing might be my favorite razor of all time. I don't even want to use the Karve anymore.....
Lame on EE Gene....I really thought you'd love it. I think it's fantastic....read somewhere that he based it on Chanel no5, which I always loved the scent of. Smells a lot like it, more masculine to me tho.
Feel bad you bought the whole thing
that’s $80 wasted unless you learn to like it.
We maybe need to send samples instead of trying to describe shit; I smelled it again and get cinnamon, amber, sandalwood and a couple other things, weird what sticks out to you and makes you love or hate something.

This is mine. Not a synthetic btw. The knot is set deeply, which makes the knot splay less. Very interesting. I think I like it a lot. The brush is much bigger in real life than one thinks.
I would buy one of these again. I can vouch for the durability. I shook it out in the shower. It flew out of my hand and smacked the tiles. Seems fine.

I def need a better brush. I thought I was doing good with the badger hair,
but like someone mentioned in an earlier post, their brush was too soft to create lather.
That's where I'm at. Also, mine loses a hair or two with every use.
That Infinity looks great!

Try a boar hair brush - they're a lot firmer than badger.
Shoebox Shave is selling them for $1.00...
https://www.shoeboxshaveclub.com/Omega- ... _1351.html
I have a fan shaped, Turkish boar brush that I paid just under $3.00.
I think they used marine epoxy to glue the hairs in because, in 5 years, not a single hair fell out.
Haven't been able to find anyone selling the same one.
Mine looks like this...

Horse hair could be worth a try as well... is not as stiff as boar but, it's stiffer than badger.
I like my new, RazoRock beehive synthetic. The bristles are packed in really tight so, while it feels soft, it can take a beating.

Re: Gillette
Prelude,
I would recommend either a Razorock or west coast synthetic. The modern synthetics are better than 90% of natural hair brushes out there. It will change everything for you.
Also, never be afraid to overload your brush. It makes life much easier.

Yeah, currently I have just the rosewood puck holder, which looks nice, but seriously takes effort
to get a brush full. But a full on mug/bowl and cream soap seems like where I need to be.

SOTD:

Used the Gem Micromatic Open Comb (MMOC) for the first time today. It was quite gentle, and I got a good shave. I'm so stoked about Gems, I bought a Blackland Saber last night.
The BM Bay Rum soap rocks. #glissantgang
The BM Bay Rum burned me like Pinaud bay rum. Not allergicly, just herbally. Not sure I like the feeling.
New brush is badass. Really big handle, and really deeply set knot. Cool feel. I liek it. Stinky though. It should lose the stench pretty quickly though, hopefully.
Good shave: 9/10

FWIW, I use little wood holders like that too. They should not impede "loading". The soap holder is not meant for "building lather", which is a whole different thing than loading.
I load the brush hard with soap, then use my hand as a cup to get a good lather started while I add water a few drips at a time. When I'm sick of this, I start building more lather on my face.
Some people use a big bowl, which I will endorse for somebody new to the game. Personally, the bowl adds a step for me, and I can't use a bowl in the shower.
So, yeah. The soap dish is not meant for building lather. Loading is just getting soap on the brush to prepare to make lather.
