I thought I'd update this:
I went with Vicoustic Wavewood panels, since they can be used as bass traps in the corners (because of the air gap behind the panel), mid/high absorbers on the walls, and they double as diffusors as well. Seemed to get pretty good reviews on gearslutz and they were readily available.Also I could install most of them so that the birds can't chew on them.

I did a before/after test by running a 70Hz test tone. Before the installation the corners of the room were like 4x as loud as the middle. After installation they are almost completely silent.
I still would need some more to get rid of all bass boominess which is mostly on the ceiling/wall seam point, and I'll need to fiddle around with the speaker placement since there are some areas that are quieter than others. At least no place is louder in the lows than my monitoring position anymore.
I just used a few tubes of Pattex NoMoreNails to stick them on the walls. Haven't fallen down yet.
