Home studio acoustic treatment?

Anyone have any treatment in their mixing room? I've been thinking of getting some panels from Sounds of Science. I know DIY comes a lot cheaper, but I'm too lazy for that.

Experiences, tips?

lol. What I'm most curious to know is how accurate do I need to be with the placement, does moving the panels a foot or so make a difference? Or is it more general, like behind the speakers, side walls, back wall and first reflections in regard of bass traps?

I made 5 4" thick panels out of Knauf Ecose rigid fiberglass. It only took a couple hours, it's ridiculously easy.

I think I'd go with rockwool since I need bass traps, but my problem with making those myself out of a material like that is a) I don't want to be itchy all the time in my small apartment, I have to deal with rockwool at work enough already b) the parrots try to eat everything they get their claws at. I know it's like 1/3 of the price to make them myself, but unless I figure out an answer to those questions I won't make them.

I'm not sure if that would be possible since I do subcontractor work all over the country. Maybe I could do them on the rehearsal space parking lot, but it still wouldn't solve the problem with the parrots trying to eat them.

I'd need to find a way to make them sturdy enough so that they can't tear through the cloth but the cloth needs to be thin enough that air goes through it.

Yes, but it's not that bad if I have some small bits of acoustic foam that I can vacuum instead of having a bird carrying rockwool everywhere. And they wouldn't hurt themselves biting on acoustic foam or wood/peat fibre.

I thought I'd update this:

I went with Vicoustic Wavewood panels, since they can be used as bass traps in the corners (because of the air gap behind the panel), mid/high absorbers on the walls, and they double as diffusors as well. Seemed to get pretty good reviews on gearslutz and they were readily available.Also I could install most of them so that the birds can't chew on them.

I did a before/after test by running a 70Hz test tone. Before the installation the corners of the room were like 4x as loud as the middle. After installation they are almost completely silent.

I still would need some more to get rid of all bass boominess which is mostly on the ceiling/wall seam point, and I'll need to fiddle around with the speaker placement since there are some areas that are quieter than others. At least no place is louder in the lows than my monitoring position anymore.

I just used a few tubes of Pattex NoMoreNails to stick them on the walls. Haven't fallen down yet.

I immediately noticed that my mixes sound pretty weak in the low end because I've been compensating for the room. Soo much more clarity in the low end now.
