Agreed. definitely better than the first. it was awesome. as a long time treky I am completely happy.
I hope he doesnt try and pretty up star wars too much. that's a space western. it needs to be gritty. I wish they had hired joss weadon instead.

Something about his style irks me much more than JJ Abrams, though I can't quite put it into words. Didn't care for Serenity or The Avengers.
I realize I'm in the minority of sci-fi fans who don't like his stuff, though.

Gotcha dude. I just feel like at its heart Star Wars is a space western and Firefly is the best space western I've ever seen.

Good point. Let's hope the new Star Wars isn't too clinically clean and slick. That's a big part of what was wrong with the prequels.
Re: Star Trek: Into Darkness - GO SEE IT NOW!!!!
I liked star trek, I'm sure he'all do fine with star wars.

Damn near, at least. The acting & character work are superb, imho.

How bad are the camera flares in this one? The last one had them in almost every scene and drove me nuts.

I watched the movie from 2009 the other day, I stopped counting after 50.

I am the odd one out and I have come to shit on your lovefest.
The graphics were awesome, the fight scenes were cool, some of the acting was first class and generally the casting was great.
But... could not get into the story line. Just didn't draw me in and things were happening that had me go "why would that character ever do THAT" or "what is this!?"
Then there was the amount of cliches/direct lifts from older movies. Sure I love me some nostalgia but some of that stuff was just crowbarred in.
Luckily I'm a sucker for space and explosions so I had a great time anyway.

Going tonight.... I saw the first 10 minutes of it when I went to see the Hobbit last year and if the rest of the movie is like that I'm expecting to be blown away.
Re: Star Trek: Into Darkness - GO SEE IT NOW!!!!
Loved it.
And as a motion graphics designer, i must say the desire to use lens flares is sometimes overwhelming. I have to pull myself back often. That said, JJ has a recognizable style that just happens to use Andrew Kramers lens flares. The one thing that creative people desire, whether it be art, music, design, etc, is to be recognized from their work alone. I would say JJ has achieved that with his style.

Great points. Of course, I am a true JJ Abrams fanboi so my opinion might be biased.

Re: Star Trek: Into Darkness - GO SEE IT NOW!!!!
I still need to go see Iron Man 3 then will go see this when the crowds die down.
The reviews I've read said it was FTL compared to the first one, which IMO was just awesome, but I trust youse guise moar so I plan to see it.

Yeah, it is. Bana was great but Cumberbatch definitely kicks it up a notch.
