Another article about Evan Dando

Post by Noah »

Dando sucks. Pretty-boy overprivileged junkie. Worthless music, garbage personality. We hate him.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/14/styl ... dando.html

So I read the article and thought why not give him another chance. Maybe I'm being unreasonable. Listened to Into Your Arms. It's obviously about heroin, with all the sophistication of a Barney song. It kills me that the Goldbergs like this guy.

What a loser. Boasts about his great luck. Comes off sounding like Bubbles from The Wire.

Yeah, I've never had a whole lot of respect for Evan. Crack smoking pretty boy. They were only good when Juliana Hatfield was in the band.

BTW, wow, what an annoying fucking video. Let's spin around in circles, and upload it from a toaster. Sweet!

FWIW, this live version of Ray kicks butt. It's a shame JH wasn't playing bass to add the background vox at 3:40.

I never thought the Lemonheads were very good compared to other bands in the genre. I think if he actually OD'd, they might have gained more fame / notoriety.

He had his hardcore followers in the '90s. But locally, outside of those people, he was consistently mocked. Mainly because there was some very serious alt/punk/rock happening in the greater Boston area at the time and he was just some trust-fucked pretty boy crackhead writing cutesy pop songs.

 exactly. Makes Blind Melon look like high art in comparison.

As much sh!t as the 80s get (and deservedly so in a lot of cases); some of this "coming to prominence in the 90s" stuff really just sucked. I mean, I get it; your instrumental skills are pedestrian at best. But god; man the f**k up already and at least pretend like you heard a song remotely related to the genre of rock in your entire life. Jeez.

The entire reason the The Clamdiggers/Upper Crust came to exist was exactly because of your post. Everything got so dour, sucky and brooding in the early 1990s' that those guys(from a few different bands) decided to flip the bird everybody and play "Mock Rock". They were the barometer for bands like Stained and Godsmack.

Obviously, since people like shit, we know who made that cash money. But I guess that's the price you pay for maintaining your integrity while pretty much wearing drag

Don't get wrong. I proudly like more than my share of what others consider sh!t  Beyond that; contrary to the doom and gloom people spouted about the state of metal once the 90's hit; there was some absolute banging stuff. But this kind of whimpery, boring dreck just put me in a coma.

I was just listening to the Lemonheads yesterday. I thought "Ray" and "The Great Big No" were pretty good jingle-jangly guitar pop tunes in the fashion of the day. I wasn't really very familiar with most of Evan's work but I guess he was a bit of a douche IRL?

I liked many of the guitar driven power pop bands of the day but it seems like most of the bands I liked had a couple of good songs in them and then quickly faded away.

He's been jerking around Juliana Hatfield for decades, so there's a good reason to hate him.

He's also a 9/11 conspiracy theorist.

New York Times wrote:Music is hardly the only topic that animates him. These days, Mr. Dando has a lot of time to read and think, and over breakfast, the former prep school student who managed four Fs and one D-, he said, in his one semester at Skidmore College found his thoughts dashing between the early American Calvinists, the 1960s cult known as the Lyman family, the Scottish comedian Billy Connolly, the intellectual legacy of William James and the seamy underside of the ’70s soft rock scene. (“John Denver once sawed a bed in half with a chain saw!” he said.)

What a pretentious jackass. This is why we hate him.

Juliana is twittering about how truthful and authentic Evan is. Vomit.

Right? He was in the Lemonheads. Never heard of them either? Consider yourself lucky. They are really not that good.
