Dude, Grooming Dept soaps are overrated IMO. Performance wise, they are great. Scent wise, they are incredibly hit or miss.

The Tao has a very pronounced floral smell that I'm not sure I like.

I'm sure the base is great, but the "soap" is a much better scent.

SOTD 4-26-19 9/10

The Viking Blades, Emperor Augustus arrived yesterday.
I started off on level 3 and kicked it up to 5. Man, it felt like a mild razor but, it shaved aggressively - it was just as good as the SLOC.
The SLOC and the Augustus are now my two favorite DE's.

Beautiful!!

Ajax, the samurai is the Tao that smells really floral.

Not sure I like it.

The Asia plum is kind of weird too.

The soap commanders all smell amazing.

A&e performance is top notch.

Scents are interesting and intriguing enough to keep them off the chopping block.

I looked up the Tao... interesting description:
Scent Notes: Grapefruit, Blackcurrant, Rhubarb, Rose, Gardenia, Sandalwood, Vanilla, Ambergris and Musk.

Had to look up Ambergris since, I had no idea what it is...
From Wikipedia: "Ambergris, ambergrease, or grey amber, is a solid, waxy, flammable substance of a dull grey or blackish colour produced in the digestive system of sperm whales. Freshly produced ambergris has a marine, fecal odor."
YIKES!!!

So Derby Premiums showed, ten minutes after I got done shaving:

Give em a whack in the morning with the Piccolo, see what happens. You guys might be in line for a PIF if these blow. Gene said they're good so I have high hopes.

It threw off my entire day, but at least it looks kind of cool. Like George Michael.

Btw, your model. She looks a lot like my mom when she was young. What nationality is she?

Nice man; hopefully you get time today, it throws me off bad anymore and that’s saying a lot from a guy that used a Wahl trimmer once or twice a week for 25 years cause I hated shaving lol

That’s my wife, her family is from Spain.

The krona rocks, and those blades are all nice. Shoot, the Arko stock shaves great if you like the smell. It can be pressed into a container too in case you don’t prefer the stick format.

Perfect today. Extra day of growth makes for easy peezy prep.
Everything perfect. Soap smells like a funeral. Blade is inobtanium Russia black blue
Razor is just savage. Love it.
Chatillon Lux after shave is the shit.
10/10. Even with a pissy mood to go along with it. This weekend can end. Perfect shave though. Maybe today will improve now.

Noice man, glad you got it in....I'm super tempted lately by those Blacklands, the Karves and especially the Timeless .68 OC...I don't think I'm ready for any of them, and wonder if they're going to be significantly better than what I'm using now or if it's just a GAS thing.

EDIT: hyped as FUCK for the Soap Commander you sent me, from the way you've been raving about em I can't wait to try it.

SOTD

Image

Soap is that homemade stuff from dude on B&B, smells like Cap'n Crunch.....on the one hand really gross and weird to shave with, other hand fuck it it's awesome and lathers like a BEAST.

Derby Premiums do everything the Extras do, while being juuuuust a bit sharper, which is cool. You were 100% right on these, glad I picked up 100 and the blade search is over. 2 passes, DFS, stoked. Ouroboros doesn't disappoint ever.

9/10 because I could have waited another day since I shaved late yesterday, but other than that just stellar.

Stein, yeah, eventually I need to try that mick soap.

Re: Karve and blackland, I know a lot. What’s good and what to avoid.

Blackland:
Hated the dart. Most aggressive razor ever.

Love the blackbird. It’s inspired by the sr71. The black oxide model is supposed to look like an sr71.

I’ve owned both brass and steel. Both handle lengths. Both safety bar and open comb.

I much prefer open comb. Black steel. Short handle.

I haven’t tried either single edge razor from blackland.

Re: Karve.
I prefer safety bar over open comb. ( opposite of blackland)
The D plate was my first. Feels great. E feels aggressive.
I have an A and B on the way.
Shorter handles balance much better. The 4” is the heaviest handle I’ve used that looked normal. (I don’t use clown handles).

So, Karve is way cheaper, but the blackland blackbird is slightly cooler to me.

Both are great. That said, I’m not crazy about Karve’s choice to mill the area around the blade tab. Kind of the worst of both worlds, but a very minor peeve.

Man. The weekend didn't get any better. I'm finally happy to be at work with the kids at daycare. Mannn. Some damned time to my self. finally.

So, This shave went sideways meh to bad. The Original Mamba's neutral/negative blade exposure probably isn't best suited to my face. I need some kind of blade exposure, I think.

eh, soap was good.
aftershave was good.
polsilver iridium seems like a 2 and done blade again. I can't use anything for 5 shaves like I used to be able to. I think my hair got rougher.

Should have used my blackbird again.

Nope, she’s done commercials and films for TV but never actual released films. Sure she’d appreciate you thinking so tho!

Blows, hate it when weekends go sideways.

Haven’t been able to use anything but the Derby stuff for longer than 5 shaves, and only in the Piccolo, everything else just gets tougher up beyond use.

I’m gonna order that brush next IB order, that thing haunts me.

1. Stein. You’re gonna love the 24 barrel. It’s the best brush I have. They have this handle with a high end badger knot on sale, but I’m not convinced I ever need another badger knot again.

2. Sotd: killer today:

Rocking the krona because of your pic the other day. It was great.
Yellow 7 o’clock = a win on every shave. I’m starting to accumulate ppi platinum blades for the bladepocalypse. It’s a necessity.

So, the a&e fig was on the chopping block, and it’s gonna stay. It works too well. And it smelled great today.

Bm42 aftershave. Awesome smells like lemons and bergamot tea. Great stuff.
Today was a 10/10
