I tried riding the bar but, gave up immediately.
I believe, what makes the Back Hawk so aggro is, the slope of the cap....
Most DE caps have a rounded edge above the blade that allows you to push the cap against your skin, causing your skin to ride up (in a controlled way) in front of the blade. When the skin rises up, ahead of the blade, more stubble is exposed from below the skin, allowing the blade can slice through without doing too much damage to the skin.
The Black Hawk cap has a flat, wedge shape and the cap is very narrow above the blade - this means that you MUST use as little pressure as possible.
The sharp angle, of the cap, makes it more aggressive because, you can't get the skin to rise up, ahead of the blade like you can with a razor that has a rounder cap.... your skin must remain flat (while using the Black Hawk) which makes it harder to shave.
It was also more difficult to shave around the adams apple, corners of my chin and where my under jaw meets my neck.
This is why the most popular razors have rounded cap profiles.

GOOD POINTS: The Black Hawk removes the majority of stubble with one pass.

This morning, I used several very light passes in different directions and got a decent shave but, not without a touch of razor burn.
I'll give it another try tomorrow, to see if I can get a good shave without any burn.

Gave it away, couldn’t do it anymore. Have easier razors to deal with.

What do you think of that Kraken AS Brian?

Good one today. I think my face changes when the weather changes. Decided to go ultra mild on my razor today because I didn't want a weeper, and I was kind of in a hurry.
Razor: RR Mamba 70. I'm starting to love this, and I'm starting to see why I used the regular Mamba as my daily driver for months at a time.
Blade: Gillette Blue Platinum. My new gold standard.
Soap: Australian Private Reserve. I don't care if the owner is allegedly a dick. This soap is the shit. Awesome. Lathers like donkey milk. Smells kind of like Uncle Walter. Shaves great. Smell stayed with my longer than my aftershave today.
Aftershave: Wholly Kaw Fern Concerto. not as much bang as the Fougere Bouquet. also, not as much menthol as I expected. Still very good though. Smells like Pinaud Citrus Musk, but feels nice on my face.

9/10 Great shave.

Nice. Feel you on the mild thing; I’m gonna work on technique with this Fatip and the safety plate. Not the closest shave but I wanna be safer the rest of the month and get good with it, then switch back to the OC cause it looks cooler lol

New stuff Monday, stoked to try it.

Good shave today....had a shit day, came home and showered and took my time and relaxed. One weeper today, was totally my error and not the gear, felt it as soon as it happened and know exactly why, I'll be on the lookout for that mistake in the future.

Tried bowl lathering as well; meh. Takes quite a bit of time, not much appreciable difference between that and face lathering. Maybe on Sundays just for prolonging the ritual, but rest of the time nahhhh

Good job with that lather. I think bowl lathering is kind of silly too, but I’m standing in the shower, so I have nowhere to set the bowl.

My Stupefacente aftershave, and travel block of alum, will be coming Monday. They’re technically IN Minneapolis, but for...reasons...they have to send it to the suburbs, trucked back into the Cities (considering the UPS distribution center is less than ten minutes from my house, this is inconvenient, to say the least; and no, they won’t let me pick it up at the center), and then to me. I’m intrigued, in a way I haven’t been intrigued in a while.

Yep, still liking it. Btw, I love the barrister and Mann reserve classic. It smells like mid century modern. Just awesome. It’s an exact replica of the Gillette sun up cologne from the 60’s. Also, really digging my mamba 70 again.

Went all out....bought all the shit including the bar soap, not pictured.

This is the smell of every fuckin hippie store you've ever been in, the New Age crystal selling, little weird boxes and black light posters, the incense etc...

It's pretty awesome, if you dig that sort of thing. I have good memories of stuff like that just hanging with P before we were together, going into places like that in different states on different trips we've taken, as well as doing it since we've been together.

It's not a 'home' smell, but really familiar. Top note reminds me of patchouli, but WAY more complex and darker.

Performance wise, this shit is top level out of what I've tried...I like this as much if not more than all the TFS stuff. It's pretty fuckin great, actually.

Really soft, so I went to go use as much as I would have if it were TFS.....that was a mistake. I also didn't use enough water, another mistake. It ended up gooey, sticky and stringy the first run; fixed it 2nd pass with way more water and it expanded and worked great. Never used anything as slick as this stuff is before.

Economically, I think this would last longer than a regular tub of TFS or whatever.....it's 5.5oz vs 4oz, plus you need to use WAY less. $17 free shipping.

Two pass seriously good DFS, new favorite.

Badass! I did some research today and found out how legit m&m is.

I have a sickness. I could use a different soap every day for over 3 months.

I just bought some new soap commander stuff. They are legit too.

1. I’ll have to get pics. I have 2 drawers in the bathroom, then a tall shopping bag full at the office. Then 4 stray kilos of soft tfs soaps. Also, have like ten soaps in the mail.

2. I’ll check more into mm. Fwiw, I’m kind of over the Adventist’s scent. More into outrageous and/or gross lately. Very into barrister and Mann right now. Lavanille is outrageous.

3. Soap commander. Vegan, not that I care. 6oz. Tall solid container. Great scents. Awesome performance. Awesome lather. If you try one, get endurance.

Hey Stein:
The Kraken is OK... it starts off smelling like Polo and dries into a nice outdoorsy scent... it's nice but, nothing tops bay rum, for me.

I hear you; I have 3 ASs at the moment and one of them is yours, gets regular play. Dig it.

Same shave as yesterday, this MM stuff kicks ass. Used a lot less and a lot more water this time, badass shave with the Fatip. No cuts, nicks or weepers.

10/10

Dude on a shaving forum makes his own soap (how fuckin cool is that?!) and sent me some to try; he deliberately went unsophisticated on the scent, this smells exactly like a bowl of Captain Crunch in milk lol

Gonna try it today and report back.

Interesting one today:
Image

Started with a Bic Platinum Greek Blade. Total catastrophic failure. I was halfway into one stroke, and thought I was in the twilight zone. It just stopped and dug into my face, and this was with a Mamba 70. This is the worst blade on Earth. EVER.

Had to switch to my backup Fatip Grande Open comb. I need to use yellow 7 o clocks more. Great blades.

Loved the 24 barrel brush. Loved the B&M Behold the Whatsis set.
