The good:
The rr stallion is the shiznit. Wicked good manly scent. I think my wife actually doesn’t hate it.
Grooming dept. pekin duck unscented. Wow. Goes on like yogurt. Sweeeeet.

The bad:
Oh boy. I’ve had it with trying to make some these 3rd world 9 cent blades work. The diamond edge is really starting to suck with everything. I need to do a blade trial with my trio of baby smooths before the March 4 for 4. I should just go back to my red personna. I’m sick of bad shaves.

The ugly:
My face.

HOLY SHIT..

tried the linea intenso this morning.... WTF?!

that stuff's lather is RIDICULOUS. smells good as hell too! shave wasn't quite as good as with the Elan, funny nuf... but that stuff is outrageous whipping in the cup and yeah, thick as yogurt! i may haveta step back to my old personna reds with nicer soaps, 'cause i'm getting lots of little bleeders- which i noticed with the creams i was using before... maybe just too sharp. still have a bunch--time to 'speriment!

EDIT: just read the previous post about personna reds  great minds, i spose. :D

As much fun as trying out all this stuff is, I think I'm just going to stick with TFS...they always smell great, perform wonderfully and fuck it...I'm just gonna stick. I only shave maybe 3-4 times per week, there's no use doing it and not enjoying it to the fullest.

Baby Smooth is turning into my go-to.....really liking the way this razor handles. I'll keep the Teck II around as a backup cause I dig the weight, (and it's a damn fine piece of equipment for 8 fucking dollars) but the BS just pretty much out performs it in every way.

This stuff, some La Nuit and some Aventus; ready to start the day.

I love how that was the “sensitive skin” soap. Sure smelled nice, but boy did it light me up.

So, I just loaded my trio of baby smooths with:
Red personna
Dorco prime platinum
Dorco titan

I also loaded my :
mj90 with a Gillette minora
Krona with Gillette nacet
Fatip grande open comb with Gillette 7 oc yellow

I really need to narrow down my 4f4. I love the idea of this challenge

The bad: Doesn't help that I'm in an emotional death spiral right now. So Sick of dealing with the kids. Sick of being tired and getting up early. Sick of my job. Plus, I don't like this razor. Terrible geometry. Real shame since the Aluminum safety bar version is my best shaving razor.

The Good: I still have the original packaging, and they take returns if you hate it. Plus, this Declaration Grooming soap was awesome. Not the most exciting scent, but such a luxurious feel. This Chatillon Lux aftershave is my Jam too.

I talk a big game about liking cold weather, but yeah, I'm kind of dreaming of spring, summer, and fall.

FINALLY, a good shave! I'm in a better mood. Something work related was resolved.

Image

This Mingoose razor ROCKS!!!! I haven't had something this close to a DFS in a while. 1.5 passes, and I was golden. The B20 is a beastly little blade.
The TFS DiVino soap just rules. No frills. No funny texture or tricks. Just solid performance and great post shave feel.
Now, on to the Myrsol! This is my first time using it on my face and not just smelling samples. Holy Moly! This is so up my alley. I can't tell if they are recreating a 50's vibe, or if that's just how outdated and weird it is. Either way, it's MY Bag, baby. This smells like Pure listerine, and makes my face feel like a baby. Outstanding.

9/10 today (Since i'm not crazy about the weight of the mingoose handle. I'm going to try my RR short Halo on this head.

Yes, it is. I used it again today. Didn't have quite as much success due to this old Cade puck not being as good as I remember. Lather looked fine, but it didn't offer any protection. I'm remembering the trick where you need an almost dry brush to make thick lather with this stuff. 6.5/10. This TFS aftershave rocks.

Used the Kai Mild Pink AC's yesterday and today, in my Occam's with exceptional results.
They're way better than the Feather ProGuards.
The ProGuard protector nubs help create a smooth, first shave but, the second and thirds shaves suck; after the first shave you have to work the razor and re-do parts... totally not worth the effort.
Thanks for suggesting the Kai's, Gene!!!!

Bonus: The Italian Barber sent me two packs of Kai's instead of the one pack that I ordered! :thu:

Have you ever had the best shave ever, then the best morning ever, until somebody completely fucks it up and kicks you in the gut? That's this morning. So, I need to take a deep breath, and revisit my great shave to try to recreate whatever mojo made had me on top of the world before I was kicked down.

Razor: YES! This is my new Wenge Fatip Testina Gentle. Super gentle. Blade alignment was nice and easy. Shaved closely.

Blade: Dorco Prime Platinum. I seriously might buy 1000 of these. Amazing. They are like sharper red personnas for cheaper. Dorco's Vietnam factory really has their shit together. The blades even look pretty.

Soap: Valobra Menthol soft soap in the Noxzema container. I tried this soap over a decade ago. I wasn't real impressed. Fast forward, I bought a loaf of it because they are going out of business. WOW. Excellent. Shaves like P160, except with a menthol kick, and a non-descript odor. I love it.

Aftershave: Stubble Buster Game. Kind of bummed about this one. Awesome scent (Victoria's Secret Very Sexy for him Clone). Nice price. Kind of burned me for a while in a bad way. Going to PIF it to my bro who needs the game.

Overall, this was like a 9/10. ONly reason it wasn't a ten is because the AS isn't a keeper. There, I feel a bit better.

I've been tempted to get into this single blade stuff. I'm got really sensitive skin and no matter how I shave it hurts to shave. Would a single blade be a good option for me?

EJ, I have ultra sensitive skin, and a super sharp single edge would be just what the doctor ordered.

Here's my recommendation for a razor:

For Blades, go on ebay and get "Kai Titan Mild" They will last about 10 shaves a piece. There is no better blade on Earth. This is the company that makes Shun. (BTW, this is the blade that Ajax recommended as well.)

What should I go for soap/brush? Or can I get away with regular shaving cream?

Regular shaving cream works fine. But....

1. Brush- get a razorock plissoft synthetic. They are like $15. Better than any badger or boar I ever used.

2. Soap - give me your address.

aw yeah..

testing the hypothesis, this am grabbed a personna red and the linea intenso... GREAT combo, super easy on the face, no weepers. already gettin' chin stubble by 1pm, but hey.. i shaved at 4am, so between a gnarly beard and not having had coffee.. i think that's probably normal :D

good mix though!

oh, and ej, man... the BEST part of actual adult human face shaving is the cup, brush, and actual non-poop soap! that stuff in a can is nasty and gross-- and honest to god, a tub will last you a year where a can of shit shaving cream will last you a month. worth the dough!

Personna Lab blades: Yes.
Merkur 34: Nein. I’m a complete novice, so I went with what I am sure is, to the average Teutonic shaver, the drizzling Scheißen, the Mehaz double-edged safety razor. Some Amazon reviews, which I only read after buying this today, say it’s either a German clone of the Weishi 9306, or the actual handle. Butterfly opening, smooth action, all that. I’m of the mind that this is, in fact, from the Vaterland, because it’s engineered so well.

My first shave: Being a product of the Mach 3 Generation, I have a lot of learning to do. My face doesn’t feel as smooth, and, while I forgot the Ogallala, as well as the alum block (I like to use one after I shave, but I only have one, and it never leaves my bathroom), there’s enough potential to continue the experiment. Maybe my dad can help me. I’m in my mid-thirties; I can only imagine how that conversation will go.
