Extremely cool. Though the Maya being more militarized than we previously thought doesn't surprise me, and neither does a centralized economy. They were rolling heads with the best of 'em!

Ancient cultures are almost universally more complex and sophisticated than is at first suspected by western archaeologists who first “discover” them. Peoples we tend to think of today as having been “primitive” were typically anything but.

yup but it is the ancient drawings depicting people being sawed in half, length-wise, held upside-down and starting in the groin that stick out in my head the most.
