I'll be making a new batch this weekend and when it's ready (in about a month) I'll send newholand and steiny a bottle.

Most aftershave manufacturers use essential oils to give their product the scent.
Using all essential oils means the batch is ready for sale immediately after mixing while, using dry spices requires a 4 week (minimum) brew time.
The only essential oil I use is, Jamaican Bay Leaf (Pimenta Racemosa) extract because, it's only available as an extract. Every single, Jamaican bay leaf is sold to essential oil manufacturers.
My other ingredients are right off the spice rack: allspice, clove, cinnamon, black pepper and I add tangerine peals.

Essential oils take longer to dissipate after splashing on.
The scent, imparted from the dry spices, evaporates shortly after applying the splash.... which is cool if, you work in an office full of bitchy people who complain about the cologne or perfume worn by their colleagues.

The bottle that you have is a blend of my second and third batches.
The second batch had too much cinnamon so, I made a third batch without cinnamon and combined the two.
I'm pretty happy with the way the blend turned out however, I'm going to kick up the tangerine a bit on the next batch.

oh MAN!

I just caught this! THAT sounds awesome-- would be totally willing to cover costs for that, man! that sounds like a for serial luxo item!

about all i make is my own deodorant outa organic biz with probably the same oils  but i'd also be willing to trade ya, too. all it is is corn starch, baking soda, coconut oil and generally some piney oil with clove, cinnamon, orange, and sometimes myrrh and frankincense! for summer i generally just do fir oil. funny enough.. it's the only deodorant that's EVER worked, and you can eat the stuff... not that it tastes good...

my wife has a BIGASS chest of essential oils that we put in a diffuser-- and i snitch 'em to make stuff-- but never thought about making old bay or after shave... mebbe oughta start thinkin' more :D

Totally into trying your deodorant. Been using Mitchum clear gel for years but, I'd like to try something all natural.
My bay rum aftershave takes a month of soaking and I'll let you know when it's ready.

Razorock Game Changer - killer. great all around aggressive, smooth, no frills razor. Milled stainless steel.
Super Max Diamond blade - Meh, started out good, now it feels like typical "3 and done" routine with 3rd world blades.
Mike's Lavandin Eucalyptus - first time with Mike's. Overall = good, but not mind blowing. Lather is typical. Performance is typical. Post shave = dry. no allergic reaction though. Scent = great. Very sharp, resinous/aldehyde scent (I like this).
RR 24 Barrel Plissoft brush. the best.
Tcheon Fung Sing Rabarbaro toner spray aftershave. Meh. Love the scent. Performance as an aftershave? not so much. This will be better suited as a body spray or in addition to a real aftershave.

As you guys know, I recently sent our pal, Broslinger, a bottle of my homemade, Old Salt, bay rum aftershave splash and he returned the favor. Thanks Gene!!! :hi5:

There are some legit great blades there. All 3 of those soaps are very nice. I loved the Stirling, except it burned my face. The other 2 are good, I just never use them.

Since, I'm working from home today, I was able to try the Italian Barber Amichi and a Schick blade that Gene sent. Thanks again!!!

SOTD:
Gillette Black Beauty
Schick Super Chromium Blade - very smooth, mild blade. Had to up the Black Beauty from my normal 3 blade gap to 5.
Italian Barber Amichi - smells like a Good Humor Creamsicle! :thu:
Cheap, $2.99 Turkish Boar Brush - this brush can really take a beating without losing any hair. They must have used marine epoxy to glue the bristles in.
Pheonix Shave - Atomic Age Bay Rum aftershave - love this stuff but, it smells more like turpentine than a typical bay rum aftershave.

 That's quite a blade collection you got going on there!

The Amichi soap lathered real nice and I'd give it an 8/10 on protection. Not as slick as a cream but, definitely better than Pre de Provance and many other soaps that I've used.
The Schick Super Chromium blade was surprisingly pleasant; not too harsh and, once I kicked up the gap setting on the Black Beauty to 5, it did a fine job on my coarse chin whiskers. I really liked it. 9/10
I was very happy with today's results: DFS without any nicks.

BBS:
Baby butt smooth. A completely smooth shave result. Circular rubbing pattern with the fingertips can't detect any sort of stubble left, period. See also DFS, CCS and SAS.

DFS:
Damn Fine Shave. A near-BBS. WTG/XTG is completely smooth, ATG will feel a little bit of light stubble. (see BBS, CCS)

CCS:
Close, comfortable shave. Perhaps a notch less than a DFS. WTG is completely smooth, XTG and ATG both can detect very tiny levels of stubble. (see also BBS, DFS, and SAS)

SAS:
Socially Acceptable Shave. Super light stubble can be felt in all directions, even WTG; see also BBS, DFS, and CCS

Me thinks, I need a Schick to round out my collection. :thu:

Bought a bottle of Sailor Jerry this afternoon....
After my second rum and Coke, at 1:00 AM EST, I mixed up a new batch of Old Salt Bay Rum Aftershave.
This batch has a bump on the citrus peals and the bay extract.
It will be ready for use in 30 days.
(In the photo, the bottle of black pepper has a variety of pepper corns... don't ask.... only black pepper was used in this batch)
The secret formula.....
12oz Sailor Jerry
4oz Witch Hazel
32 Drops West Indies Bay Leaf Extract (last batch had 21 drops - recommended amount is 20-40 drops)
1/2 Tabelspoon Allspice (pre-pulverized - thanks, McCormicks!)
1 1/2 Cinnamon Sticks
16 Cloves - pulverized
15 Black Pepper Corns - pulverized
3 Teaspoons Glycerine (last batch had 2 teaspoons)
Zest of 2/3 Softball Sized Orange (I forgot to get a tangerine)
Image

This batch is for my GGF eFriends!!!! Wooo hoooo!!!!!
Batch will yield 8ea. - 4oz bottles.

Barfly... what a great movie! Two thumbs up! :thu: :thu:

man! ajax that totally rules! so psyched-- what an awesome thing to make-- no idea why i never thought to do it when i was considering macerating my own amari... daggone same thing, you just drink it instead of put it on your face

and damn gene.. what a PITA having sensitive skin! i have greezy dago skin, so i could use kerosene as an after shave most times-- hilariously, SOME bay rums (like ogalalla!) are the only things that actually freak my skin out. if i use it on a day i DIDN'T shave... skin doesn't care. :D

i'll hit ya with my address though-- but you've already sent me stuff mang! i'm stocked forever  and that isn't to say i don't appreciate ya- most certainly do!
