Ninja, please. Anybody who saw Luke in Ep. 4-6 knows for a fact that Luke would act exactly like that. Pretending otherwise is revisionist/retconning history of the most egregious sort, sirrah.

Now, which first scene was a slap in the face ~ the space battle or the first scene w/Luke & Rei?

(Damn, shouldn't have made each reply a separate post! :cop: Oh well, at least we're under way! )

BS, Luke did what Yoda and Ben were unable to do. Rookie mistake on your part.

Rian Johnson had no reverence for any kind of gravitas that was expected for Rey to go through everything that she had to do to meet Luke on Achto, then he throws away the lightsaber (like a total rube writer would do) AND THEN LATER CALLS IT A LASER SWORD. NO EVER IN STAR WARS HAS CALLED IT A LASER SWORD, ITS A LIGHT SABER.

That was a slap in the face to JJ Abrams as well. He set up that cliffhanger as an emotional crescendo. And Johnson take a royal shit on it as joke.

Keep em coming, I can point out the short comings all day. Jigga, please.

It looks like Megan Fox is being fitted for a new brazier and the woman doing the bouncing is a lingerie shop employee?
Not sure which movie it's from.

BS, Luke did what Yoda and Ben were unable to do. Rookie mistake on your part.

First, let me state clearly that Luke is a gorram hero in the truest sense of the word and always will be (spoiler alert: TLJ makes this point abundantly clear).

That said, Luke damned near got his ass turned to the dark side in his rash, thoughtless, and undisciplined efforts to do what Yoda and Ben were unable to do. And he would have died in the attempt, to boot, but for heroic sacrifice made by Anakin in throwing off the mantle of Darth Vader for the sake of his son.

Luke failed at the cave. And that failure revealed his enduring character flaw.

The thing is, it’s indelible flaws like that which make our heroes heroic. What’s worst about Luke is also what is great about him.

Rian Johnson had no reverence for any kind of gravitas that was expected for Rey to go through everything that she had to do to meet Luke on Achto,

Perhaps you’re not recalling the glaring lack of gravitas from Yoda after everything Luke has to go through to meet him on Dagobah? Johnson understands Star Wars motifs better than you think, son.

then he throws away the lightsaber (like a total rube writer would do)

Like Yoda in Dagobah had done for him, Luke is both teaching and testing Rey from the moment they meet. All of her preconceived notions about him, about the Jedi, about the Force, etc., are completely wrong, and what better way to begin teaching her this VITAL lesson than tossing away the object which for her symbolizes all of those preconceptions? The writing is absolutely brilliant there — no noob could’ve conceived of it.

AND THEN LATER CALLS IT A LASER SWORD. NO EVER IN STAR WARS HAS CALLED IT A LASER SWORD, ITS A LIGHT SABER.

This will probably be seen as helping your argument rather than mine, but young Anakin did in fact refer to Qui Gon’s weapon as a laser sword in The Phantom Menace. Just sayin’.

That was a slap in the face to JJ Abrams as well. He set up that cliffhanger as an emotional crescendo. And Johnson take a royal shit on it as joke.

First, if you think that was a joke, you have horrendouslmisread that scene and didn’t understand it at all.

Second, let’s not deify Abrams, either. He did a good job with The Force Awakens, but even though I loved that movie, I have to admit that critics were right about one thing: it was essentially Episode IV with a new protagonist. Abrams could get away with just remaking A New Hope because we needed that to recapture the original magic of Star Wars. But for Episode VIII, simply copying an earlier film would have killed the franchise dead, for good. The new trilogy sooner or later had to break new ground whilst still being true to the magic of the series AND whilst teaching us new things about the Force. That’s no small order, but Johnson delivered in spades.

Keep em coming, I can point out the short comings all day. Jigga, please.

It’s on like Donkey Kong, Brutha!

Meanwhile, I’ve got to finish my (real) sermon for tomorrow!

Saw that. Would’ve said something, but I haven’t seen that one yet. :o. It just didn’t strike me as a story that needed to be told. :idk:

After your review, I’ll check it out.

But if it ain’t about Luke & the Jedi religion, it ain’t the best SW film, period. :cop: :p

Also, only 20 to go! :woot:
