Limo crash kills 20

Post by Maddnotez »

Some of you may have seen the headlines.

I don't watch much news but there is a video game group that I am in on FB. Someone posted up about this horrible accident because one of the members there was in the crash and passed away.

I do not know him personally although we are from the same area and I have had a few discussions directly with him about the game we were in the group for. Pretty tragic stuff.

So I start digging through the wormhole.

20 dead, the driver, 2 pedestrians and 17 passengers. Most of the passengers were in their 30's more than a few of them were siblings. Many newlyweds and some who have left behind a very young child who will never really know their parents and a spouse who did not go due to not feeling good.

I try not to put blame on this but I came find out that prosecutors are charging the operator of the company. This same exact Limo was deemed undriveable by the government. Has had citations as recent as a couple of months ago. Failed inspections, faulty brakes I believe and the driver who I kind of feel bad for as well (who also died) did not even have the proper license to operate said Limo.

Well, first, I am sorry about your group's friend death. That is horrible.

There is no doubt this guy shouldn't be operating limos. Without a question he should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Dude is a piece of shit.

The other stuff..idk. Lots of "what if's" there. It's true that if he was deported this wouldn't have happened (unless he passed on the business to someone else before he went and they continued with the same shady practices, hard to know for sure). But what if he did not provide whatever information he provided to the FBI? Maybe they (terrorists) would have set a bomb off downtown and killed hundreds? then we would be saying "well the FBI had a potential informant and decided to deport the guy instead of getting the information"

Like I said...lot's of "what if's" and should've/could've'"s.

I am inclined to lay the blame solely on the piece of shit who decided to operate the limo without proper licensing and inspection. The rest is very complex IMHO.

And before the thread goes in that direction, let me remind everyone we don't do political discussions here. So if it goes there, there goes the lock.

Yeah you're right absolutely tons of what ifs and I did not think about the rest. It could have been much worse the other way around to your point.

I should have left the last paragraph out. I was not trying to get political at all in the post. Will delete that out.

If what you say is true (I haven't looked into any of it) then blame totally needs to be on the driver of the limo, and the company owner for not keeping up with inspections and such.

Is all 100%. It is the state prosecutors who are pushing to charge him.

It's a sad story indeed, after it happened I had read that some of the passengers had texted that the driver was driving horribly.
They had originally rented a bus, but it broke down last minute so they scrambled to find something.

These charges are WAY too soft though! Single count "criminally negligent homicide"?? What?? He will be out in 5 years with good behavior. 20 counts of Manslaughter would be more like it. WTF

Also, putting a little "unserviceable" sticker in the car's window is BS, especially with his guy'a prior history. This fucking limo should have been impounded and only released to a licensed repair center.

Couldn't agree more.

I can't go back to verify right now but I think I saw something that said the maximum punishment for this charge is 4 years. Hell he could be out after a year or so with a sentence like that. Not to mention depending on how long all of this takes - many people get credit for time served while pending trial from the arrest date (although he did post bail so idk if that is relevant)

Sorry for your loss, Madd. It's a shitty situation for sure. Even though I have only met / interacted with a small percentage of posters here, I know it would definitely affect me if any one of the GABbros died, even the ones on my ignore list.

Thanks. I mean, i do not want to sugar coat it. I barely knew the one guy and it was just a few discussions about a video game we shared a passion for.

The Hommies are on a whole other level.

This was such a tragic event. I personally know one of the families involved. I worked with a wonderful woman who lost her husband and son-in-law in the accident. They weren't even in the limo....they were the bystanders at the market. Terrible for all involved.

Now THAT is a travesty of justice. I really hope these are initial charges and the DA is gathering more evidence to indict him on more charges. If he gets a 4 year sentence for being directly responsible for 20 deaths, fuck...

Also, let's hope they deport the fucker this time. I can see the feds giving him a deal on a DL fraud charge for vital information on terrorists once. I can understand that. But what is the excuse this time? He should be on a plane as soon as his prison time is over. If there was ever a case of "overstaying your welcome", this is it.
