Show us your oldest gun!

My 1915 BSA Enfield. She ain't pretty, but she's old and shoots. Imagine that this has been through both World Wars, and very possibly served in both.

Shame it's been cut down. I don't have many old ones anymore, but my oldest I've ever had was a Trapdoor Springfield in .45-70. Was dated 1882 iirc.

I have considered replacing the wood (the barrel is still full length) but replacement wood is hard to find and expensive. Besides, I've decided I like her the way she is.

Nice collection there.
Does your Mauser still have the eagles on it? I would love to get one, but it would have to be original with the eagles.

Half of the eagle was ground off.
The story I was told is: when the Russians captured German weapons, they ground off the eagle and gave the weapon to their own troops.
If the story is true, the one in the photo was Russian war booty.
Someone wanted to remove the eagle but, they were either in a hurry or, didn't really care or, both (because you can clearly see half).
When the Berlin Wall fell and the Cold War went to sleep, the Russians began shipping their WWII collectibles to the US because, they could get higher prices from the Americans.
A lot of K-98's made their way to the US in the 90's.

Yeah there are tons of Russian captures around, and usually the eagles are ground off. I did find a nice original at a local store, but I didn't make up my mind in time, and when I went back, someone had scooped it.

This 1855 Harpers Ferry Civil War musket has been handed down in our family for generations. My
great, great grandfather used it for the North in the Civil War. I have some old tin plate pics of him
as well as the powder horn, brass US belt buckle and belt, scabbard for the bayonette, and a possibles bag
for the patches and balls.

Having the provenance on this makes it worth much more. This musket made the smooth bores obsolete with the rifled barrel and new Minie balls, it was deadly up to 500 to 1000 yards according to wiki. Here is a quote from the wiki page on this.

"Earlier muskets had mostly been smoothbore flintlocks. In the 1840s, the unreliable flintlocks had been replaced by much more reliable and weather resistant percussion cap systems. The smoothbore barrel and inaccurate round ball were also being replaced by rifled barrels and the newly invented Minié ball. This increased the typical effective range of a musket from about fifty yards (46 m) to several hundred yards. The Model 1855 had an effective range of 500 yards (460 m) and was deadly to over 1,000 yards (910 m).[2]"

A bunch more here at the wiki site on this 58 cal musket. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Springfield_Model_1855
