Almost ready to go, just need headphones

Post by Bengerm77 »

So I got a laptop and downloaded Reaper and bought a used focusrite scarlett 2i2. Now I just need to get some headphones for tracking and I'm ready for demos and songwriting whenever I want! Which headphones should I get? I just want to be able to play acoustic drums and still hear the clock or guitar track or whatever I need and I don't want to break the bank. Whatever I'm going to get it's probably going to be what's suggested but used. You guys have any recommendations for decent headphones that won't shit the bed? I'm looking for bare minimum acceptable, here.

Sometimes, I like to just start typing and see where it goes

ATH m30x's probably as close to cheap and serviceable as y' get for a closed back, flattish, tracking/playback can. anything a ton betters gonna be 30% more. if you want seriously cheap, maybe try superlux HD681's. basically an akg copy, and about 30 bucks. heard great things about em, but can't speak as to their quality myself.. but have it on pretty good authority they're unbeatable for the price.

AKG 240's I use mine all the time. Cable is replaceable too which is nice.

ATH-M50X = $99 from Alto Music on Reverb.

comfortable.
accurate.
loud if need be.

I auditioned everything in the Sweetwater showroom. These were my overall favorite. A warehouse worker got me a pair for $120 new with his discount.

I would consider buying a $99 pair just to have extras.

These are my fav headphones for almost anything, super comfy, sounds great, replaceable cable...NOT for drums. The semi open design makes you need to crank it too much and there is volume bleed through to the mics. Drums need that closed back isolation IME
