First badlands album

Post by jnurp »

I can't find it anywhere online. Like literally nothing. I read something about the fact that Ray gave multiple people hiv before he passed and that all the proceeds were awarded to the victims and that's why the record company pulled the rerelease. Can anyone verify this story?

I don't have the link, but there is a youtube interview with Jake and the bass player from Badlands where they deny that story. Interview was with Eddie Trunk maybe? Either way they don't do a good job of explaining why the first two albums haven't been re-released.

I had both , I saw them live in a Hollywood club in the 80's and they were amazing . I knew he died from AIDS but I never heard that OP story before , Drug addicts were spreading this around like it was free weed back in the day.

OK I got this from a reliable source, ie a comment on a YouTube page. Ray was dating the daughter of an Atlantic records exec and gave her HIV before he died and the exec said fuck you to the band and buried the album forever. Crazy how many versions of this story are out there. I am such a huge fan of rays music I really hope all this stuff isn't true about him spreading it knowingly. That would have made him a truly horrible human being.

Great album. I love all three of them and recently checked out some unreleased demos on youtube that were excellent.

I think I have likely heard the same ones, and they were indeed excellent stuff! I wish they had got a chance to record that stuff “for real”

I like Jake, just never got into them so much. Wanted to, just never clicked.
