I went to a buddy's house and he threw a few records on his turntable last weekend. One Smashing Pumpkins album and another from an underground grunge band I had never heard of. Both were of stellar production and the sound was surprisingly awesome for 45's. Nothing was overproduced, the bass sounded like a fucking bass, and the singers sounded like fucking singers and the guitars were layered the old fashioned way for thickness.
I am looking for a newer solid heavy grunge band, somewhere between Smashing pumpkins to Nirvana.. looking more for something with intelligent writing and riffs vs cookie cutter catchy tunes.
The exies fit that bill. Although, Not a grunge band, they are a bit on the melodic side but great songs, great vox and great hooks. For sure one of my favorite bands from the last 20 years.
