Another Recording

Made another recording this morning, I think getting this was the best thing I've done for my guitar playing in a LOONG time. Apart from fun I'm having learning how to record, I'm more readily hearing what I need to improve on.

The recording is with the rivera r30 with the bass down at 1, mids at 5, treble at 3. I was kinda impressed with the tone on this one and thought I'd share.

Side note, what mics do you guys recommend as a do-it-all solution, I'm looking in the $100 range. Is the sm57 still the go to?

Sounds good. I'd go for an Audix I5. Same price as the 57 IIRC.

That's some bad ass, classic Rock n Roll tone you got there!!! :rawk:

If your budget limits you to one mic, I'd get a condenser because, they have a wider frequency range and are more versitile (IMHO) than a SM57.
Your converter must have +48v phantom power to supply a condenseor mic.
Here's a good one for $99: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail ... gKv4vD_BwE

I appreciate the feedback guys, I'll check into a condenser mic. From what I've been reading they seem to be more geared towards acoustic and vocals to be able to pick up the nuances. Seems that will be the way to go for me. I've heard good things about that AKG and the Audio-Technica AT2010

Dig the tone on this quite a bit more than the last one you posted man. Keep it up, you’re doing well!

I also dig the tone on this more than your first clip. I bet it would sound good with a backing track.

57's are good for guitar. Its a good standard that you cant go wrong with & can be used on various instruments & vocals..
There are others that are great too, not necesarrilly better or worse for guitar, its more a matter of refining your sound based on your likes & gear.
But once you have a good mic, finding the right spot one your speaker is crucial. After that, a half inch this way or that can have more tonal effect than an EQ.

The superlux pra 628 mkii is an e609 copy that is pretty much cock on to the original. It's super cheap too.
