Finding a band sucks

Post by parsono10 »

So burnt on Craigslist. Having trouble getting responses to my ads and hardly ever see any ads from decent drummers or bassists looking. Maybe it's because I'm 47? Maybe it's because I have a day job? Maybe because I want to play originals? Maybe live bands are a dying breed? WTFin'F???????

Play synths and write electronic music. Never deal with another person again. Win.

mid 40s original rock/metal band are really tough to get together...even tougher to gain interest around town. I'm still banging away at it though!

It does. So far, the only drummer I've found who isn't completely overloaded with bands has no interest in starting an actual band and just wants to jam in the garage. Granted, that's probably about where I need to be right now, but still.

Hmm... L.A. has plenty of older mellow dudes wanting to just jam and do rock. I consider myself part of that demographic

Bummer this is common for some of you guys. Good luck fellas. The only thing I could say is just be part of a project that might even be outside your wheel house. Synergy, universal law of attraction, and such. :%

I’ve got two bands going on right now. The one I just joined has potential, and everyone in the band is good. I’m a lil stoked. Both bands are around my age, with many members a bit older. I’m 44

I did this when I got sick of band bull$h!t. Probably end up doing it again. If your over 30 here, there isn't much going on.

I want to start a band called, Old Fucking Bastards. I'm sure the name is in use but, I don't fucking care.
I want to play hoppin', greaser punk (not psychobilly) and make fucked up faces while playing and yell at the audience between songs... sounds like fun! :rawk:

I play old man rock and there’s plenty of older rockers in LA to not get pussy with so I’m good.

even in your late 20's you are already too old for the entertainment industry , but it doesn't sink in until you are in your late 40's

I was going to start a thread about the same thing..............

hardly ever see any ads from decent drummers or bassists looking. Check (That's more ads than I've seen!)
Maybe it's because I'm 47 Check (I'm even older! But that's really not a problem around here....)
Maybe it's because I have a day job? Check
Maybe because I want to play originals? Nope, although everybody else does, so.......Check
Maybe live bands are a dying breed? Not sure.

I've got a audition on Sun night that I really don't want to go to. The style of music totally turns me off. It's so bad, that even I could do the vocals without any problems. Really simple basic stuff....

But I'm thinking, maybe I should give it a shot in the hopes of networking, learning new styles, and going out of my comfort zone. This all sounds like I'm justifying a bad idea :horse:

It's gotten to the point where I saw for the first time here about a week ago on someone else's thread about the Digitech Trio. I was mightily impressed with it and I started thinking....................."do I really need a drummer and a bassist?" Seriously, that Trio kicked major butt.

Anyway, we ALL feel your pain
After Tuesday, even the calendar goes WTF!

Honestly this is part of the reason I invested in some recording gear. I enjoyed playing with others but either I was never good enough or they didn't take it seriously. I'm Not worried about it though, I plan on just recording my music and putting it out there when I'm good enough.

The reality is, chances are if they suck, you are at a similar level. Without a lot of extra work, it’s hard to rise above what's around you, because nobody is pushing each other to improve

If you're so much better you should be able to bring them up to your level or find someone who is.

Of their awfulness, or your awesomeness?

Record a clip with a phone, or tablet. Doesn’t need to be studio quality
