Agreed. It should be a non-issue, but sadly, it isn't.

That, and Billy told me to contribute more...so here you fuckers go.

Was gonna make this thread but then got busy at work. Pretty huge IMO. Though everything I've read shows he is getting support from players and media members alike. Pretty bold and couragous of him I applaud him

Though the interesting thing will be when these 2 things happen 1) He is a free agent right now, will any team sign him still. Pretty sure someone will. 2) how will he be accepted and percieved in the locker room by his teammates when that time comes.

the only issue here is that it took so long for it to happen. If the guy is a good player, who cares what his sexual orientation is?

Hopefully in 20 or even 10 years that will be the prevailing sentiment, but it was 2013 and someone still had to be first.

Yeah. I am in L.A. and I haven't met anyone with any issues against gay people in a long time. I am sure it is different in other parts of the country though.

THIS and THIS.

lots of players have already come out and said they could give a damn what sexual orientation their teammates have as long as they are gonna make the tackle, jumpshot, diving catch whatever that's what they care about.

But we already know there are players that don't have that kind of mindset, key example being the jackass on the 49ers during the Super Bowl press bonanza that basically said he wouldn't welcome a gay teammate on a team of his. Like benamin said there had to be a first to do it before it comes to be normal, a "rosa parks" if you will.

I definitely commend the guy but I can't believe he's the first.
I really hope this brings a wave of a lot of closeted homosexuals in sports out of the closet.

I still can't believe this shit is any issue with people these days.
Can't people see that we're going to look back at this stuff in 50 years the same way we have every other issue of equality (race, gender, etc)?
Seems incredibly obvious to me.

Sadly the same folks that hate gays still discriminate against race and gender.

there was also the first mixed race prom somewhere in the south this weekend. very sad that took so long as well. glad this stuff is finally happening but the fact that people are still so intolerant is very troubling. Jason is very brave and i hope it further helps bring awareness to basic human rights issues.

As is mine for the most part.
However its going to take time for the unrelenting bigots to die off and the slower to catch on to progress areas to get caught up.

That was mind blowing. You'd think in the year 2013, we as a society would be past that. Shit's fucked up man.

Oh well.
Props to Jason.

Not true.

Brittney Griner came out the night she was drafted.

Also...the ONLY reason this is a big deal, is because the media made it that way.

If it wasn't for the media, nobody would know or care what player "x" sexual orientation was.

Fact.

Fuck the god damned media for making issues bigger than they need to be.

Right, except only 5 north americans give a shit about tennis. :cop:

So, as far as the big 3 male sports go, yup, a first. And for whatever reason its a bigger deal when guys are gay than girls. I guess it makes the "manly men" dudes uncomfortable or some such shit. I dunno y.

And yes, as to Brittney Griener, nobody gives a fuck about women's pro basketball either. No one.

Is the title inaccurate? Strictly speaking yes, but again, as far as sports that large amounts of people care about this is a first.
