I Need Some New Headphones
I need some new headphones, for checking mixes and working with my modeler.
Was thinking some open back ones. Budget is $200. Suggestions?

for fun factor, i'd look at beyer dt880s, especially if you want to play through them.. but that's pretty different than checking mixes, and more along the lines of a tracking can..
i'm a big fan of grado sr80s for checking mixes- but also like the AT m40's or 50's for a totally different flavor. I keep em all near my recording desk..

Not sure but, it looks like the X version has a jacked cable that can be removed?

Yeah, I have the M50Xs, they come with 3 cables and they’re detachable.
Be careful tho, they’re pretty bass heavy.

Re: I Need Some New Headphones
Ive got two that I use. For most listening & mixing I prefer my Sennheiser HD518. Theyre balanced, deep, clear, comfortable, open back & they do SOUND open.
I also use Audio Technica ATH M50X. The AT's are more strident, very DIRECT sounding.
My JBL monitors & my Sennheisers what I rely on for most things.
The M50's are a 3rd point of reference. And closed back, so theyre nice for record monitoring & stuff.
Anyhow I love a good set of Sennheisers.

Ended up going for these: [url]https://www.massdrop.com/buy/akg-k7xx-massdrop-first-edition-headphones?utm_campaign=Transactional%3A%20Captured%20Permanent%20Drop&utm_source=SparkPost&utm_medium=email&utm_term=Transactional%3A%20Captured%20Permanent%20Drop&utm_content=1506796083362.406945407469323508526863&referer=9WJP88

Guy on TGP suggested them. They get excellent reviews, so we'll see.

ATH 50's for tracking , Grados for mixing

Re: I Need Some New Headphones
I had picked up the ATH-M50x based upon forum suggestions and while they have a 'sound' to them I've really liked them.
