New Computer Stuff Day.

Grabbed new stuff, my old stuff was killing me. Dell Inspiron 15 7000.

New one is an i7, 16GB of RAM, 512GB SSD, plus ibenhad was kind enough to kick me a 2TB external for some sample storage (thanks hommie!! :hi5: ).

Grabbed all my stuff yesterday, got everything DLed and set up. Kind of a pain in the dick, but the overwhelming consensus was to start fresh with everything. Took about 4 hours including grabbing work stuff, because this comp doubles as a work deal too, which means I write it off on my taxes lol. They were running a deal the week I snagged this, which means I got the laptop and a 27" monitor for under a grand. This is actually the 2nd monitor they sent, the 1st showed up DOA, and they cut me an even bigger deal on this one because I basically told em I didn't want it anymore, so they pretty much kicked me a $300 screen for $80. I still have my 24" and the idea is that I'm going to hook em both up and run duals for music.

It's fast as hell, and just for kicks I set up a template in Reaper with 25 tracks and loaded a Kontakt instrument onto each one, plus my main Slate stuff that I use on every track. Armed all the tracks and hit record.......it all worked. Not that I'd ever need that, but it's nice to know I could if I wanted to. Laptop I just killed wouldn't even run my 4 track template in Reaper with all the orchestral stuff I had in it, it was just terrible.

Grey thing under the monitor is an integrated speaker......this is a gaming laptop, which means there are tweeters and a sub inside, plus that one......hooked it all up and hit play on a Slayer vid and P came running in from outside yelling at me to turn down the noise. ON MY COMPUTER

Anyway, stoked. Pic of my mess:

Me too Steve....thanks for your advice on this, BTW.....like I said, pain in the dick but everything is clean and working nicely together just like you said it would. Plus since I don't have 6 years worth of random crap on this it runs super smooth. I only grabbed what I use on the reg, and I'm gonna keep it that way. I still have 300GB free on the SSD, plus 99% of the EHD free as well. I'm going to be able to keep this thing running for a while, even if I decide to grab a couple of the bigger orchestral libraries.

Thanks brother G...it's a nice feeling to just create and not worry about the rest of it.

Congrats!!! Really happy for you bro!

300GB storage REMAINING on the computer? That sounds so funny because, only a few years ago that would have cost mega-mega bucks!

It's tough giving up an old computer but, 16 gigs of RAM makes the loss a lot easier! :thu:
