Over the last week or so I've been spending my spare music time on really striving for better drum programming and production quality. I'm trying to not become contented with drum loops that are close enough but trying to really nail the feel and accents, fixing offbeat feels or swing feels where they don't belong, and balance the velocities on the various drum parts throughout the song to match the dynamic and arrangement of the piece.
I also figured out how to route specific drum sounds from the main VST track to other channels for side chain processing. Right now I have kick and toms to their own bus, snare to it's own bus, and brass and room & overhead mic to it's own bus, with a parallel "dry master" bus that contains all drum paths unaffected. On each side chain bus I'm applying processing in different ways to support the type of drum sound the bus controls, and blending those various buses with the dry master to find the right balance between raw sampled sounds and compressed/processed sounds.
Throughout the process I've learned a lot of things. Moving forward I will take these things into new projects with quicker workflow and precision.

Not really. Same basic tone cause same speaker but the Randall is a bigger more massive overall sound. That's great in a big room but it sucks in a smaller room. The 2x12 gets to the point of a little speaker breakup. Just a hair. And it's at the right volume for when the amp's power section starts to fatten up. The half back would do good things.
