Re: Bugera 1960 (plexi clone)needs more mids. Any mods???
What speakers are you using?
BTW - 'flat' response on a classic Marshall amp is bass and treble on 0, mids on 10
Also, if you aren't turning that sucker up to almost ear bleeding volumes, you're not hearing it like you should.

EQ in the loop. Works great but I think you should try using some Greenbacks. I have a 1960 as well, and it has tons of mids.
Good deals: Guitar Billy, Crunchtime, Draco Aron, Holy War, Crank, Yo Squig, Moops, Elemenope, Edge of Darkness, Abstract, Chris JD, Ricky Rockhardo, Norton 666, Freehandarson, Dolf, Van_Muddlestein, Yarbicus, Schweezly, Nateispro, Conky, MikeO, Whiskey Face, Broslinger, Mamberg, Ajaxlepenski, Ovid 9, SAH5150, Axe, Greatmutah, Rubyguitargod, Hardvalve, JerEvil, Jive Turkey

+1 to EQ in the loop. 10 band MXR EQ pedal should do it.

You could always go for a James network and then turn the midcontrol into a "balance" one instead.
In that manner it is real simple and easy to dial mids in any way you see fit.
Google James network for more info. Need be i´ll be happy to guide you that done.

Yes it is.
Altho the James and the Bax are often claimed to do the same thing, this is false. They need to be kept apart.
Anyway. James.
The thing with a James is what most people fail to see. It is one of THE most versatile setups you could ever ask for in a guitar amp,you just need to understand what you´re asking for.

Here i´m trying to show hands on what a James can be had to do,and this is just the tip of the iceberg. Point here is that by adding a few mini toggles you can to the letter have the amp change face. Completely.
By for instance altering ONE capacitor values of it the ENTIRE thing changes how it does its job. There´s those claiming that the James belongs in Hi-Fi amps only, that it can´t be scooped per normal Fender/Marshall/Vox aso standard.
That´s just plain bullshit by people that hasn´t taken the time to sit down and ponder what really can be had from it.
In essence you could for instance replace them mini toggles with a 6 way breaker instead...thus basically be able to tailor capacitor values to hearts content.
I guess one of the main reasons most builders don´t use it is because they haven´t take the time to understand how it works. That simple.
That pot i suggest above. That´s a pot of 1M instead of R4 in the page that explains the James. Ergo,a 1M pot will work as sort of a "balance/bias" resistor, and the practical differences that can be had..are truly worth the effort.
Mark.
When you go ape it IS possible to get a setup where you can get "lost" as per some Mesas for instance. IOW,tread gently and carry a big gun.
The Bax in turn...is what tells us that there IS such a thing as a to vivid/active tonecontrol.
